U.S has right to interfere in Pakistan economic, governance affairs: US Ambassador

ISLAMABAD: US ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter has said that the United States has right to interfere in Pakistan’s economic and governance affairs as the former provides funds to it, Geo News reported.

Addressing a ceremony here, Cameron said that the United States provides largest aid to Pakistan, therefore, it has right to interfere in economic and governance affairs.

The ambassador said that the United States made demands to Pakistan with respect and dignity, adding that statement of Hillary Clinton about POL prices was misquoted.

He dispelled the impression that US was mounting pressure on Pakistan for launching military operation in North Waziristan

There are more schools and infrastructure destroyed in Pakistan by Indian launched TTP than this aid.
We have more losses in engineered floods than the aid.

While the value of Pakistan's transit aid to US & India amount to many $billions.

Keep your mouth shut, if you have no overview of the aid Zardari had granted to poor Indians and which will end if he is ousted in next elections.
There is no count of trucks which are dumping Indian goods in Pakistan without paying single penny duty.

This news is a classic example of an official being misquoted, and thus resulting in sensational news that helps increase news agency ratings. Unfortunately, this kind of journalism creates more harm than good and strays away from the path of good journalism. News agencies should have posted Ambassador Munter’s actual words so people could read what he said and judge for themselves. After reading his accurate statement people would have realized that this news is fabricated.

For clarification purposes, here is Ambassador Munter’s statement, “If we seem intrusive, it is because we care. We are Pakistan’s largest donor. Our aid comes as an outright grant of assistance, which is very different from offering loans that must be repaid”. Also, contrary to the tone of this news, Ambassador Munter stressed that the U.S will aim for our work to be clearer, and more open, and that we will make efforts to fully respect and understand the Pakistani culture, tradition and history. We fully recognize and respect Pakistan’s sovereignty and independence regarding every decision they make. There are extremist elements like the TTP that want to undermine the Pak-US relationship, and twisted news of this nature, unless challenged, only helps these extremists in their goal.
