Embassy: Image 'thrust in front' of David Friedman, U.S. supports status quo on Temple Mount

U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman was photographed Tuesday receiving an aerial image of Jerusalem bearing a simulation of the Third Temple instead of the Al-Aqsa mosque and the Dome of the Rock.

First reported on the ultra-Orthodox news site Kikar Hashabat, the photo of Friedman receiving the poster was taken during a tour of Bnei Brak held by the Achiya organization, which aids children who suffer from learning disabilities.

It was unclear at the time whether Friedman noticed that the image was doctored and whether he was endorsing it or not. A U.S. Embassy official told Haaretz they have demanded an apology from the organization "for allowing one of their staff to present this controversial image to the ambassador during the visit."

A statement issued by the embassy later said that Friedman "was not aware of the image thrust in front of him when the photo was taken. He was deeply disappointed that anyone would take advantage of his visit to Bnei Brak to create controversy."

"The U.S. policy is absolutely clear: we support the status quo on the Haram al-Sharif/Temple Mount," the statement concluded.

Achiya has issued an apology to Friedman and the embassy, saying a staff member on its behalf presented the picture to the ambassador, who was unaware of its content.

"We wish to thank the ambassador Mr. David Friedman and the staff members for their professionalism and courtesy... regretfully the entire event was marred by a cheap political act, the responsible staff member was identified and apologizes and we will deal with the matter internally in the organization," said the statement.

Lawmaker Ahmad Tibi (Joint List) responsed to the photo by saying: "And this madman wants to bring peace. Good thing you didn't put the embassy there!"

The U.S. officially opened its embassy in Jerusalem on May 14 amid clashes between Israeli security forces and Palestinians at the Gaza border that killed dozens of protesters and wounded hundreds more.

David Friedman has been a controversial figure in the U.S.-Israel-Palestinian Authority axis. Known for his support of the settlements, Friedman headed a group that has raised tens of millions of dollars for Beit El, one of the most radical settlements in the West Bank.

The U.S. State Department has in the past publicly distanced itself from comments made by Friedman, clarifying that his words do not signal a shift in U.S. policy toward the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

In January, the State Department reiterated that it has "not changed" its position regarding the status of the West Bank as occupied territory, following a report published saying that Friedman pressured the department to stop using that term.

In early September, Friedman said in an interview to the Jerusalem Post that the Israeli left-wing is opposing the "alleged occupation" of the West Bank. Later that month he caused similar controversy when he told an Israeli news outlet that Israel is "only occupying 2 percent of the West Bank," and that it was "always the expectation" that Israel would expand into the area it conquered after the Six Day War in 1967.
Most likely, Israel has already secured the money and the support from Arab states to build it. El Aqsa mosque is the only historical site that represents true Islam that has escaped destruction from the Sauds. This will give them the occasion to do away with the last vestige of the Prophet Mohamed SAWS mark in this world.

Do you even read what I write? end of discussion.

I read your post, it's just that I don't buy the tale that ballot boxes will remain free and fair while assad clings to power.

There are only 2 options, ballot or bullet ... those whom choose bullet have record of wars like Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya pushing these countries into edge of collapse years of conflict and chaos as they did in Syria by pouring weapons and terrorists into the Syria ... but if you opt ballot box under international observation and monitoring beside constitution amendment to help Syrian to be in charge and decide for themselves then they could find peace again eventually 'cause they would put Syria first.
There are many players in Syria which are seeking their own interests none of them would accept to lose the only way to put an end is asking Syrian.

There cannot be free and fair election while assad clings to power. So your song about the ballot boxes is a hoax. You have chosen bullets over ballot boxes.

They will not be able to do that. The world will witness that. Allah has shown many people their value many times, so, may be, Allah will do that one time more.
THis is going to happen foretold by Muhammad SAW ,,, We cant stop it but we ordered not to accept it ...

Actual Aqsa mosque is there in the picture (right side). How ever they have replaced dome of the rock with the temple.

Yes have to say it even when I provided you with data suggesting Iran proposed free and fair election, constitution amendment and calling out for participation of all Syrian in government while it was rejected by other side who have chosen bullets over ballot boxes?
They rejected this proposal and continued on this path which they'd already started back in 2011.
It ain't your business to say Assad participation in election is democratic or not that is Syrian concern.

It's ironic that he is jew so is the israeli ambassador to us he is an american jew with israeli citizenship

You keep omitting the part which says the despot must step down if he wants to participate in the election. We know why you want to evade that part. Your claim is a hoax.

I don't evade anything, if as I Iran says election is about to be held by UN and under its observation then there would be no concern. Are you worried that Assad might get re-elected? I am not worried if he won't.
Current catastrophic situation in the region be it Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan or Libya and so on origins in 1 thing constant policy of interfering in internal affairs of countries and policy of regime change ..
To address this problem countries should stop making decisions on behalf of people ... let people decide about their own future.
What's your problem by Syrians decide about Assad?

Not again

Assad must go, Assad should step down etc

So what in the end? Give syria up to ISIS and Al Qaeda? Or give it up to French cruise missiles that are raining on the Syrians heads like acid rain? Who did allow Americans, Brits and Frenchies to bomb Syria with tens of cruise missiles? Stop kidding yourself, Assad was elected by Syrians, you hate him, because of his Alawite family. Syrian Sunnis voted for an Alawite and you are the no one in this process.

I thought you said you wanted to see free and fair election in Syria. That's the only way or else it will be selection not election. People of Syria are not terrorists, those who don't want to give them their rights they are. So stop equating them with Daesh.

Turkey is supporting Al Qaeda, massacring Syrians. The terrorists that Obama called them moderate.
Those who chose to fight, are only a minority in Syria responsible for 7 years of unrest imposed on Syrian people. Unlike sisi of Egypt who ridiculed basics of democracy, Assad won a fair election, US UN Russia and many other countries had been watching that election. Democracy in Syria is what West is afraid of, all of them started whining about it and never allowed Syrian citizens to take part in that election. 10 million Syrians, actually whatever remaining of Syrians in majority voted for Assad.

Terrorists supporters hate Assad because he is from an Alawite family, terror groups have announced that election is evil, just read the announcements of Al Qaeda branches such as Tahrir Faligh Ahrar etc, they don't even believe in democracy, and you are shouting that they are oppressed. These people are sick and bullet is the only way that they have chosen to speak

Your comment is the despot's typical narrative. Repeating a lie thousand times won't make it true.
