What's new

Type 10 is a 4th generation main battle tank

there are reports that we may buy armata tank.so think again before typing.
i hope u dont say altay is better then armata.a country first time making tank vs which specializes in tanks.

Are you dumb? Altay is based off the Leapord; it is equal if not better to the leopard. The Leopard is the best tank out there. The Armata wouldnt even be able to compete with the older versions of the Leapord.

u look like a person suffering from inferiority complex saying old leapord better then armata.end of my side of debate.

Actually, new doesn't always culminate into being better. The fact is,we basically have got nothing substantial to go with, when it comes to the capabilities and technical aspects of the Armata........true that it is revolutionary design, but it's also untested. On the other hand,we have got the venerable Leopard 2,which has for long been regarded as the benchmark against which, modern MBT designes are judged!!And calling the Leopard 2 old would be doing a great injustice to this otherwise great machine, since it has seen many improvements over the years of its service life, there are many blocks of it and the latest A7 variant just came out a year ago!!The A7 is practically a new beast altogether when you compare it to the A4 or earlier versions!!So,I won't be so quick to write the Leopard 2 off as technologically inferior in a whim!!

And by the way, there is virtually zero chances of Armata coming to India, not under this government, especially if we are to take the MMRCA saga as an example and also, that the Arjun MkII is showing a lot of promises lately!!
my reply had leopard 1 in context.yes ,newer version of leopard2 are definitely best tank around.i read that official from russia said armata is open for export to china and india.btw army is not really happy with arjun2 due to weight and how it cannot cross bridges.if these problems are not corrected, there is possibility of armata in indian army.

Turkey is developing TURKISH ENGINE POWER PACK for ALTAY TANK. 1800HP

Japan Deal Scrapped, Turkey Looking for Tank Engine | Defense News | defensenews.com

ANKARA — Turkey’s months-long negotiations with Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for joint development and production of an engine for the Altay, a planned indigenous Turkish tank, have failed largely due to the Japanese government’s near total ban on arms exports.

Turkey’s procurement and industry officials had been in talks with Mitsubishi since last year to co-produce an engine to power the Altay, a new generation main battle tank being developed by Turkish armored vehicles manufacturer Otokar.

“Such a deal has gone off our agenda,” Murad Bayar, Turkey’s chief procurement official. “We have agreed with Japanese officials to focus on other areas of cooperation [in defense].”

Japan, which renounced the right to wage war in its postwar constitution, effectively banned arms exports in 1967. Under new guidelines being developed by Japan’s government, exports would be approved by the Trade Ministry if they were judged to serve peaceful missions or if joint development of a weapon was deemed to enhance national security.

Talks with Japan for an engine for the Altay broke down because of Turkish intentions to export the indigenous tank and Japan’s reluctance to license the joint engine, a senior Turkish procurement official said.

A Japanese diplomatic source declined to comment. One Turkish industry source dealing with Mitsubishi confirmed that the deal was off the agenda.

The procurement official said Turkey would seek new options to develop the engine with foreign know-how.

“New ideas will emerge quickly, we hope. This is going to be a promising, large market when you think of the indigenous tank program,” he said.

Turkey plans to initially build a batch of 250 tanks, with scores of follow-on orders.

Since the mid-1990s, Turkey has been looking for a suitable engine for the Altay. In 2008, Japan announced that it would manufacture its own tank — and an engine to power it — to protect its homeland against a North Korean invasion.

If it went ahead, the Turkish-Japanese plan would have marked an historic departure from Turkey’s traditional engine supplier, MTU of Germany. Sources say the Germans have been reluctant to share critical engine technology and also have been skeptical about any potential future export licenses for the Altay.

Turkey is an advance nation, but its not quite there yet. Take it easy on 1800HP engine. :rofl:Those words are too big for rite now. Start small first build a 1200 hp.

@Indians

I cannot believe you all responded and actually took a troll that just joined the forum today seriously and immediatly started bashing Turks in general. Anyway no harm done i suppose.

Back to the topic: The Japanese Type-10 is definitly a really modern and capable MBT but it really doesnt anything beside what current MBT's already have AFAIK. I mean its still has the L-44 smoothbore cannon. The tanks seems to be specificly designed for Japan's geography. I actually think this tank might be have been suitable for Pakistan considering its relative light weight and overal weight distribution.

This is actually an interesting question doing the round for some years. A tank, no mater how heavy will always be much more expensive and vulnerable to an anti-tank missile. There are counter-measures and active-kill measures deployed but the missile will always have an upper hand. Tanks will have to be reconfigured in history to remain relevant.
