There was actually a rumor that there is more than one Type 092 in service. However, if even that is true, these submarines are too old, assuming that they haven't had a major refit.

There was another rumor that these Type 092s will be converted to SSGNs.

Hopefully the Type 096 SSBN will be unveiled soon.

The construction of the first Type 096 is not completed yet.

They are developing the JL-3 SLBM right now. And according to the insiders, the JL-3 project is coupled with the Type 096 project.

According to some of them, JL-3 has started its tests since the military drill in the water close to Japan back in this June.
