We read the different story though. Our peace keepers have huge acceptebility in African countries .

I am not saying that you are entirely wrong , but there are two side of coins,and you can't see both side at a time.

So I am optimistic about the govt decision.

issue we have our problems; we see land issues already surfacing - outsiders now coming to farm etc; that is considered as land grab. you may be seeing labour usage but not settlement.

again - i take this with caution given what i see on the ground across the entire SADCC region which is why i mentioned Moz/Zambia.

Bangladesh is in talks with several African countries to sending workers and Sudan and Kenya have already agreed to take Bangladeshi farmworkers, said Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Wednesday.

Under the plan several thousand Bangladeshi workers will be sent there, in the first phase, to be employed in the agricultural farms of those countries under contract farming.

“Our people can take lease of farmlands in these countries and then they will be allowed to take workers from Bangladesh to employ there”, said Dr Momen.

He said these to reporters after a meeting on ‘contract farming and employ opportunity abroad”, held in the city through a virtual platform.

Ambassador Golam Moshi delivered the key presentation in the meeting.

The foreign minister said that though the Middle East is the biggest destination of the Bangladeshi workers, the scope of employment of foreign workers is shrinking there.

In this context we are exploring new opportunities, he said.

He informed that recently a series of meetings and correspondence were made between Bangladesh and some African countries.

They are also shortages of farmworkers and huge tracts of farmlands which remains unutilised there.

Responding to a question he said that Bangladesh government will take due steps to ensure the security of its workers in Africa, where ethnic clashes are a common phenomenon.

Sending Bangladeshi farm worker to African countries is not a good idea.There is lot of unemployment and poverty.Local poor and unemployed would not like it.

You should broaden your mind and should consider the earth as a global village. All of us are human being and they are not going to create any trouble for you ., they will help you instead ! Consider everyone as human being instead of considering people Asian , American or African .

The land less will be beneficial and you will be beneficial too with their labour . Win win situation for mankind!

BD is not seeking to export unskilled farm workers to africa. There is an initiative under which unskilled farm workers will be sent to europe primarily, portugal, spain, italy and poland.

The african proposal is two fold.... first BD will purchase/lease farm land from the african government and then completely work it with Bangladeshi labour. The produce will be for consumption in BD primarily or export elsewhere. Initial deals are with uganda, tanzania and Gambia.

Secondly export of skilled farmers, this has already happened, they are going to train africans on techniques that has been very successful is BD.

The article is badly written but it relates to contract farming. Local issues would be for the african countries to manage, no one is forcing them to sell or lease land to BD. If they do one assumes that any local issues completely resolved prior to commencement of the deal.

Africa is uncharted territory and many countries are competing to get a slice of the pie. BD needs to be in that game too. Our national security requires exploitation of economic opportunities.

The massive difference is that we are not going to these countries as workers but as investors. The calculus is materially different. There are risks off course but we will have to roll with it. The local issues are for those countries to manage. I think from what I heard Nitol Niloy and Bangla agritech is now fully operational with i think combined 50K hectors of land. Can not recall where. They are looking to expand rapidly and others are trying to get into the game.
