Two African countries to take farmworkers from Bangladesh, informs minister

Bangladesh is in talks with several African countries to sending workers and Sudan and Kenya have already agreed to take Bangladeshi farmworkers, said Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Wednesday.

Under the plan several thousand Bangladeshi workers will be sent there, in the first phase, to be employed in the agricultural farms of those countries under contract farming.

“Our people can take lease of farmlands in these countries and then they will be allowed to take workers from Bangladesh to employ there”, said Dr Momen.

He said these to reporters after a meeting on ‘contract farming and employ opportunity abroad”, held in the city through a virtual platform.

Ambassador Golam Moshi delivered the key presentation in the meeting.

The foreign minister said that though the Middle East is the biggest destination of the Bangladeshi workers, the scope of employment of foreign workers is shrinking there.

In this context we are exploring new opportunities, he said.

He informed that recently a series of meetings and correspondence were made between Bangladesh and some African countries.

They are also shortages of farmworkers and huge tracts of farmlands which remains unutilised there.

Responding to a question he said that Bangladesh government will take due steps to ensure the security of its workers in Africa, where ethnic clashes are a common phenomenon.

Expatriate welfare minister Imran Ahmed and State Minister for foreign affairs M Shariar Alam attended the new as special guests.

Some of the things BD government does is very very stupid.

They do not look at the big picture all the time.

I am not kidding you. I have many bangla people who I know - many were victimised by xenophobic mobs. it is very worrisome. the govt is really not doing its job correctly. you are letting people into the unknown.
If it is Moz; they already have an active insurgency in the north. Zambia is a hell hole - if they are going to put them on the limpopo.

Hell no....whats wrong with people...I thought Bangladesh was a rich developing economy which had left Pakistan in its dust

Ofc momen the human trafficker will sell people to scums now.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Musa was involved too since he recently made relations with some major awami league family. Can’t recall if it’s hasina’s family itself

What's wrong if Bangladesh lease land in African countries and cultivate ?

Our land is small with huge population , so if we can get land and can use it for farming , then in the end it will benefit us .

Our soldiers are in African countries for peace keeping mission , and now our farmers will go there too .

But yes govt must monitor and ensure their security , and I believe everything shall be fine then.

I welcome the decision.

In all honesty, you should start planning for the future in the wake of rising sea levels. Bangladesh is incredibly densely populated and even a small rise can affect millions.

Start colonizing the Northeast of India. You have favorable relations with India so that's a plus point.

We actually don't have favourable relationship with India.

India only can take , they won't give .

And as long as Bangladesh will be strict about India , you will see the enmity.

Enmity? Where? I know that the common Bangladeshi has nothing against Pakistan (and vice versa), but your government made Bangladesh an Indian protectorate. You cannot deny this fact.

The Northeasterners are incredibly anti Bengali otherwise you could set free trade agreements with India only for the seven sister states. Let them use your port and coastline. Meanwhile you guys seek investment opportunities there and gradually settle there.

There is a difference between protectorate and dependant . Yes for sure all of our govt made us dependant on India , however it won't work in future anymore.

I have discussed something here at past , but the problem is I can't provide evidences as such evidences aren't available.

The reality is anti Indian patriotic power is controlling the govt behind the scene , and that's why I feel we are safe .

If BAL govt try anything serious that harm our sovereignty , they will withdraw their support.

BNP wanted to make armed forces weak , and that's why they gone forever , I only can say it for now.

Another thing @Iltutmish , what you see with bare eyes , are not always the reality .

And that's the reason you won't see any enmity. I don't blame you ,as majority won't see it .

If majority know everything, then how can superior minority control the mass ?

History is witness that always elite minority controlled mass worthless majority ( democratic jahil force ) .
Hell no....whats wrong with people...I thought Bangladesh was a rich developing economy which had left Pakistan in its dust
What is the reason of such mockery ? You can discuss it's negative and positive side of the planning of Bangladesh govt .

Trolling isn't necessary all the time.

We read the different story though. Our peace keepers have huge acceptebility in African countries .

I am not saying that you are entirely wrong , but there are two side of coins, and you can't see both side at a time.

So I am optimistic about the govt decision.
