Two college-going sisters were killed after mortar shells hit their house in Darpakhel village in North Waziristan on Thursday night.

Local people said that Amin checkpost near Miramshah bazaar was attacked by unidentified men. The security forces responded with mortar shelling and some of the shells landed in residential compounds in Darpakhel, damaging nine houses.

One shell hit the house of Noor Shah, leaving his twin daughters seriously injured. The girls could not be transported to hospital because the area was under curfew. They succumbed to injuries.

Waja Hasan and Wajeha Hasan were the only children of their parents and they had appeared in their FSc second year examination on Thursday. Both were also Hafiz-i-Quran.

After the funeral on Friday, tribesmen held a demonstration outside the Miramshah press club and threatened that the route to Darpakhel would be closed to security forces if President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shaukatullah did not take notice of the incident.

Anwarullah Khan adds from Khar: Two members of the local peace committee died and two officials of the Bajaur Levies suffered injuries when unidentified men attacked a checkpost in Khar tehsil in Bajaur agency on Thursday night.

Officials said several rockets and mortar shells were fired on the checkpost in Marram Ghoondi village, 4km from Khar. The administration identified the deceased as Faiz Mohammad and Sar Gulab and the injured as Ajmal Khan and Muntazir Khan.

poor girls. may rest in eternal peace. Amen.

ILWER...

The sooner we get out of this bloody war, the better it is for Pakistan. Now wait for their family to turn on security forces... and then they say where TTP hires their personnel.

At least the military can conduct an investigation to establish whether any negligent action by its soldiers resulted in the deaths of these civilians. Sad collateral damage but given the situation in the area one will be stupid to demand that no collateral damage takes place. May these girls rest in peace. Hopefully the military will ensure that adequate amends are made for their deaths

As if this is first the first incident...i am pointing out this for months...what this idiot faujis do is that when taliban open fire on their check posts in miranshah and retreats, they start firing mortars at population after attack......

MIRANSHAH: Situation in North Waziristan remained tense as curfew was imposed throughout in North Waziristan on the second consecutive day after a security troop was killed in an attack over a post in Civil colony on Friday.Locals of Miranshah told Frontier post that a man was killed and six women and children were injured as a result of mortar shelling from various security posts on Friday night."The indiscriminate shelling continued till Saturday morning and local population was exposed to severe threats of lives" said a local of Miranshah adding that five houses were hit by the shelling of the security forces.Curfew also remained imposed for the second consecutive day and routine life came to a stand still in Mir Ali and Miranshah Bazaars as all the markets and roads remained closed.Local radio broadcasted regular warnings to the residents of the area to confine themselves to their homes."Anybody seen in an area of one kilometer of the main road anywhere in Waziristan, would be responsible for the consequences" Radio Miranshah informed the locals. In the meanwhile, almost all the educational institutions, hospitals and other offices also remained closed on Saturday due to the agency wide curfew. Those who received injuries in shelling, were reportedly lying at their homes and were not allowed shifting them to hospitals.Maik Mumtaz, a local elder of Miranshah village told that Match Factory area, Kharwanai, Datta Khel village and Miranshah village were among the areas that were targeted in shelling of security forces.Local journalists opined that no information was shared with them from the political administration or the security forces about the ongoing situation in the area.Experts of the area are of the opinion that if the situation remains the same and the existing tension was not released well in time, than there remains no doubt that government is certainly paving the way to the most debated military operation in North Waziristan especially at a time when US special envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan Mark Grossman is in Islamabad to discuss the issue with the Pakistani rulers.
Tension in NWA as mortar attack kills 1

War is a horrible thing and it destroys lives, evidence of which can be found on this thread. The army should try and reduce collateral damage. Vanquishing the Taliban is not an easy goal especially when they tend to hide amongst the general public and meld with their environment.

I think we need to produce a grand strategy to defeat the militants once and for all.

RIP...........Double blow for the family....
