When will the first U214 be built.
Currently we have 14 U209, with the 6 U214 are we going to have 20 submarines or is some of the U209 going to be retired and the number kept at 14. Currently we have the largest conventional submarine fleet in NATO anyways.

When will the design be unveiled for the TF2000 and when will it be built and completed.

Also I would like to know about the air defence of MEKO frigates and Gabya class, are they sitting ducks against aircraft as I believe gabya class have SM1 air defence and MEKO has essm.

Construction of first sub will start at early 2014.

guess the following is a partial answer to your question. and bro we have a sticky thread for such questions or any news about our navy.

dr_okuz from WAFF

some substantial info about our Meko s and multiple engagement capability

1. Not only Barbaros-B but also Barbaros-A also getting Mk41 VLS + SmartSMk2 combination. And unlike Grik meko new 3-D SmartS radar can provide "interrupted guidance" for ESSM, which means time share illumination of ESSM missile, each STIR radar can guide 4 ESSM missile. Which also means each Barbaros class can simultanously engage 8 target, while grik Hydra Class can guide ony 2 missile with any given time. So Barbaros Class has 4 times effective than coldwar era tech Hydra Class.

2. Turkish MEKO Class equipped with Harpoon Block-II missile, which can attack totally complex scenerious, is much more superior than Grik Harpoon Block-1C. In short Turkish MEKO is better than Hydra on ASuW

3. Turkish MEKO can carry latest S-70 Seahawk, which is techinally better than, grik seahawk; and Turkish frigate can fire Mk54 torpedos, in short Turkish MEKO ASW capability musch superior than Grik Hydra Class

4. Turkish MEKO Class, has military SATCOM capability, HF over IP communication system, Link16 and Link11 CAVLIS; upgraded ASELSAN GPS/INS suite, Warship-AIS which is indigneous, etc.. So Turkish MEKO has better communication-identification suite.

4. And we have complete modernization for MEKA200 TrackI

.Upgrade of SeaZenith, with ASELSAN optics, and radar digitaliziation (which is done)
.Upgraded communication navigation suite.

. Most importantly new ASELSAN WARSHIP EW SYSTEM that includes:
*Active Phased Array Jammer (2 jammers, with 2 transmitter array)
*Expandble Jammer and launcher system
*MKE 130mm chaff-flare launchers
*New ESM system
*Laser Warning Device, that is used in Milgem
*IRST that is showed in IDEF-11
*Floating decoy

Well, as it appears, Germany will NOT pay £100.000.000 to Turkey for a delay of 3 years in giving the submarines to Turkey.

Germany will give only £2.000.000 to Turkey for the delay...

Almanya'dan Türkiye'ye büyük tazminat! - Ekonomi Haberleri

What are they even thinking? £2m? Really? Arright, lets wait for 3 more years and let Germany give us another £2m for the delay...

A delay of a project worth of £2.500.000.000...

guys, i cant really understand why type 214 construction havent started yet? also, Turkey officials havent even show their concerns.. i wonder what Turkey demand from Germany that it took that long.. especially, Germany has experience to transfer tech to Greece and South Korea. Moreover, Turkey has experience from u209..
I wish Turkey can also update its u209 and install AIP systems in it as Greece..

Simple, Turkey seeks as much local contribution as possible. AFAIK the Type 214TN will have roughly 80%~ local contribution, knowing Turkeys ambitious plans to become independent in terms of military, i wouldnt be surprized if we demanded even more contribution.

As negotiations continued for years, i dont really think Turkey comes up with new demands every day. According to the contract, other than AIP and engines, Turkey will build the rest. the only reason is Germany being late to send AIP systems to Turkey or something else..
