"İÇDAŞ tersanesinde inşa edilecek 370 metre boyunda ve 70 metre genişliğindeki uçak gemisinin inşası için maliyeti 50 milyon doları bulacak tesiste kuru havuzun yapımına başlandı. İÇDAŞ tarafından kendi öz kaynaklarıyl hayata geçecek uçak gemisinin yapımı sırasında önemli bir istihdam fırsatı da doğacak."

What? Did I understand right? Even the ‘Spanish ship Juan Carlos I’ only does 230.82 m (Length) and 32 m (Beam)…

The true aircraft carrier (Queen Elizabeth-class), him, have 280 m (Length) and 73 m (Beam). And why on the 3D picture there is a aircraft carrier with two Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS)?

So 2 x LHD are confirmed ? Also
F35B order ?

It will be a while before Turkey gets a fully fledged carrier, 2 things 1 is building and the other operating

First post 2020 they need to form the ARG and gain experience in operating aircraft both fixed and rotary in the sea

The shipbuilding industry needs to deliver the two LHD and then they will be in a good position to build bigger and more complex units from experience gained

Carrier construction requires a well rounded set of well oiled skills from design to welding to lifting

Organised, synchronised and well planned

My guess is around 2025

Experts that I've read generally state you need a proper fleet around each carrier to sustain them. Turkey doesn't have AA capable ships yet (the program for one is still undergoing development). Even if we had the technology and it was all down to building, manning and maintaining these fleets it would come down to economics, does Turkey have the budget to entertain such a niche product for Turkey?

I think your 2025 estimate is optimistic.

Unless you are suggesting that Turkey can build a aircraft carrier in a year that is not optimistic

If construction starts in ~2025 it won’t be commissioned until 2030 easily, a carrier is quite different to a patrol boat

The French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle (Nuclear) costs 3.5 billion euros.

The subject for an aircraft carrier is not so much in its direct cost but in the related expenses that it generates. In addition to the cost of acquisition, the French aircraft carrier costs between 125 and 135 million euros of operation per year, "or more than 5 billion euros during its lifetime, estimated at forty years".

This numbers are those of the French Senate which controls military defense expenditure.

It is very much within to the reach of Turkey. So, the only real question is why?

What about R&D...
What about the "Around" Technology and Industry that was created all around that "3.5Bil aircraft"...
And so on...

Turkey will acquire a total of 8 "TF-2000 class frigates" and "six TKMS Reis-class submarines (Type-214TN)" with the indigenous development of a new class of submarine (MILDEN - Milli Denizaltı -). They already have their operating budget programmed throughout their lives. Not to mention the other defense ships already operational.

What about R&D...
What about the "Around" Technology and Industry that was created all around that "3.5Bil aircraft"...
And so on...

There is practically no need for R&D (TCG TRAKYA - LHD -). Apart the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) - And even there, they don't start from scratch -.

You need 1-2 AAW frigates for each number and many support ships and subs which Turkey do not have right now. They want to build 4 AAW frigates for guarding Turkish airspace. With these additional LHD, Turkey needs much more frigates, corvettes, maybe destroyers, subs and support ships and of course professionals. A very expensive project indeed.

Yes, it does cost to sustain a fleet with 7/24 flight ops on the deck. And yes it does also require surface combatants to protect it.
But Rome wasn’t found in one day, was it? Step by step we will expand and enlarge our naval superiority beyond our horizon.

Also, on a note, a direct comparison of financial upkeep of Juan Carlos would be better because De Gaulle is a nuclear powered carrier.

Henry Kissinger at each high international crisis, used always to say: "Where is my aircraft carrier?"

Because a aircraft carrier it is more 50 000 tonnes of diplomacy and deterrence in the sea.
