What's new

Turkish Naval Programs

Yeah turns out it's from Spain, construction of Juan Carlos I. But ours will look very similar at that stage so it's good for comparison.

Agreed. It's not exactly the cutting edge but it'd be better than nothing if relations with the US sour further and we end up getting nill F-35Bs.

there is no plan b for this situation.

@aziqbal you are right we shouldn't go f35b if we don't plan to plan to have more than one LHD. But my guess is we gonna take the +1 option and gonna built second LHD So We will probably buy 12-16 F35b.

What is status of second LHD? Any contact signed with shipbuilder ?

There is a claim that Turkey informed her F-35 correspondent about her intent to buy 16 F-35B. The source presented as Jane’s 360.

Turkey expresses interest in buying F-35B STOVL variant
Kerry Herschelman - IHS Jane's Defence Weekly
30 October 2017
Turkey recently expressed to the United States its interest in purchasing the F-35B short take-off/vertical landing (STOVL) version of the Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter, Jane’s has learned from Turkish and Western defence industry sources. This is in addition to the 100 F-35As it already plans to buy from Lockheed Martin.

A senior Turkish Defence Industries undersecretariat official expressed his country’s interest in buying F-35 STOVL variants to Vice Admiral Mathias Winter, head of the US Defense Department’s F-35 programme office, during a meeting held in Ankara in mid-October.

It is unclear how many F-35B STOVL variants Turkey intends to buy.

Britain or South Korea?. The important question is what kind of a ship he's talking about. Has to be something expensive if he says it would make waves around the world.

Or it will be Russia and that's what he means with "will make alot of noise around the world". Maybe Russian landing crafts, as there were reports a couple months ago that Turkey and Russia where talking about Hover Landing Crafts.

Can't really imagine something else to be honest.
We ain't gonna buy a Aircraft Carrier as we don't have the money to do so.
We are building our own Destroyers so no need to order South Korean or British Destroyers.
So there aren't many option left that could make noise around the world.

Will the I-Class be able to fire guided missiles from its VLS-Cells?
