Long Range Anti Tank (LRAT) Missile project has been launched in 2005 by the Undersecreteriat of Defence Industry in order to meet this requirement of the T129 Turkish ATAK Helicopter with National capabilities. ROKETSAN being the main contractor of the project, LRAT is planned to be in service at the same time as T129 Helicopter. With the Phase-1 contract signed in September 2005, design activities for the project have been succesfully completed in the first semester of 2008 and the 2nd phase (Development) contract has been signed by ROKETSAN and the Undersecreteriat of Defence Industry in July 31, 2008.

ROKETSAN being the main contractor, other Turkish Defence Industry companies also contribute to the LRAT project. The Warhead of the missile is planned to be effective against modern combat tanks. LRAT will not only be a solution for an important requirement of Turkey's defence, but also will be a product with great potential among our Ally Countries.

The long-range air-launched anti-tank guided missile (LRAT) envisaged as the main armament for the future T-129 light attack helicopter is met by ROKETSAN.
Fitted with an imaging infrared seeker LRAT has a maximum range of 8 km and will be used by the Turkish ATAK Helicopter against armoured ground targets.

LRAT, as well as the ability to be used by land platforms, has the following characteristics;

Lock on before or after firing
Use in day/night and all weather conditions
Tandem Warhead, effective on reactive armours
Insensitive munition

Anti-tank missile

Baktar-Shikan

Baktar Shikan is the version of HJ-8 that is manufactured under license by Pakistan[1]. The missile system can be quickly disassembled into four sub-units, each weighing less than 25 kg, making the system man-portable. Baktar Shikan can also be mounted on Pakistan's Cobra attack helicopters and APCs. At a distance of 3 km, Baktar Shikan ATGM can destroy all currently known tank targets with 90% hit and penetration probability[2]. With its long range, penetration power and a powerful anti-jamming capability, Baktar Shikan forms a potent defence against armoured targets.

Recently Bangladesh, Malaysia and Sri Lanka have purchased Baktar Shikan missiles.

Bakhtar Shikan is wire guided while LRAT is not....which is plus point to LRAT....Either Pakistan should go for chinese HJ 9/HJ 10 or LRAT....Or start its own program....

It will be better for Pakistan when it produce LRAT in License within scope of a Tech Transfer Agreement. India is raidly building up it's Tank Fleet, so I think Pak can not lose Time for an risky indigenous Development which need several Years due it completion.

I agree.Pakistan has a very little budget so we should get the best out of it.
