The Army Day celebration included an exhibition of the ARM's latest equipment and weapons, seen publicly for the first time. The most notable appearance was the Mercedes-Benz Unimog U4000 4x4 high-mobility communication vehicle, part of the recently delivered Aselsan Mini Taktik Saha Muhabere Sistemi (TASMUS) tactical area communication system, now operational with the ARM's Signals Battalion. Also presented was an Otokar Cobra 4x4 high-mobility armoured vehicle, one of two donated to Macedonia by Turkey for use by the ARM's Military Police Battalion.

KAE export markets, Turkey being a NATO member is limited to who we can export to politically. Kazhkstan doesn't have this issue.

Indonesia, Turkey review joint defense projects

Defense officials from Turkey and Indonesia recently discussed the progress of a cooperation agreement, including an ongoing project to produce a medium-weight battle tank, Indonesian sources said on Sept. 8.

Director General of Defense Potential for Indonesia Sutrimo Sumarlan told Anadolu Agency that his meeting with Turkey’s Undersecretary of National Defense Ismail Demir focused on the tank project and further defense cooperation.

“This is the sixth annual Defense Industry Cooperation Meeting where we evaluated the progress of mutually beneficial agreements created during the last meeting. We also exchanged information and introduced products created by each country’s defense industry,” said Sumarlan.

During the meeting on Sept. 6, the two nations went over a progress report of the joint production of the KAPLAN medium-weight battle tank.

Turkish armored-vehicle manufacturer FNSS and Indonesia’s defense company PT Pindad have been jointly working on producing the KAPLAN tank in Indonesia following an agreement in 2015.

The Indonesian prototype, which is still in the finishing stages, is expected to be displayed at the Army Day military parade in Indonesia on Oct. 5, 2018.

Sumarlan said Turkey was looking into more forms of defense cooperation with Indonesia.

“Turkey offered design and technology cooperation for type-214 submarines. They are also interested in discussing further details for business-to-business cooperation for both countries’ defense industries,” said Sumarlan.

Sumarlan also noted that Ankara had discussed with Jakarta the joint production of medium-altitude long endurance (MALE) unmanned aircraft.

“Moreover, we also discussed the progress of the cooperation between Len Indonesian—a state-owned electronic equipment producer—and a Turkish firm, as well as cooperation between Indonesia’s Dirgantara Aerospace company and Turkey’s TAI Aerospace Industry,” he added.
