The Turkish navy has 112 ships in commission including; 16 frigates, 8 corvettes 14 submarines. The equipment used in these vary from MM38 Exocet SSM to the SM-1MR SAM. This makes the Turkish navy one of the most sophisticated navies in the area.Go for it.

The 16 frigates are composed of:
8 Gabya Class (ex-OHP) frigates
Launched and commission dates (in that order)
- TCG Gaziantep (F-490): 16 Feb 1980 - 24 July 1998
- TCG Giresun (F-491): 27 Mar 1979 - 24 July 1998
- TCG Gemlik (F-492): 15 May 1980 -24 July 1998
- TCG Gelibolu (F-493): 27 June 1981 - 22 July 1999
- TCG Gökçeada (F-494): 7 Feb 1981 - 27 Sep 1999
- TCG Gediz (F-495): 20 Oct 1979 - 1 Sep 2000
- TCG Gökova (F-496): 4 Dec 1978 - 11 Apr 2002
- TCG Göksu (F-497): 3 Nov 1979 - 4 Apr 2003
The Gabya class frigate is said to be the back bone of the navy, due to many reasons:
- The GENESIS CMS modernization program allowed these ships to counter modern threats by enhancing its tracking capacity, improving tactical data links and a modern automatic threat detection; thanks to the fully integrated weapons control capability of the Genesis CMS.
- F-497 TCG Göksu, F495 TCG Gediz, F-496 TCG Gökova, F-491 TCG Giresun received 8 cell Mk41 vertical launcher system and a new Thales SMART-S Mk2 3D radar; the existing Mk13 launcher was not removed. Furthermore, fire control system of these four ships were upgraded to Mod12 level
- It is also worth mentioning that all ships were integrated with ASIST Helicopter landing aid and the flight deck was extended to allow S-70-B2 Seahawk helicopters to operate from the ships.
General Characteristics:
- Displacement: 4100 tons full load
- Missiles: Mk 13 Mod 4 launcher, 4 x Harpoon SSM, 36 x Standart SM-1MR SAM,
- Torpedoes: 2 x 324 mm Mk 32 triple launcher for Mk 46 Mod 5; anti-submarine torpedoes.
- Helicopters: 1 x S-70-B2 Seahawk or 1 x AB 212 ASW
As mentioned before, the 4 ships have Mk41 Mod 2 launcher, 32 Raytheon RIM-162 ESSM, in addition to all above.
- SPS-49(V)4 air search radar (replaced by SMART-S Mk2 3D radar only on the 4 ships mentioned)
