Turkish army’s drill on Iraqi border [PHOTO]

Depends on Turkish foreign policy, Baghdad has no problem with Turkey, the only problem was Turkey favored working with Barzani and Nujaifi brothers.

The former Kirkuk governor was building his statue in secret, it wasn't finished and not yet public. KRG is still in the dictator era

What about the border gate with Turkey?

Iraq should capture that or a joint operation so there can be trade. Does Iraq Turkey have any other border that bypasses KRG?

There's no border that bypasses KRG, but really what is stopping us from paving that border to Ibrahim Khalil/Habur? It passes through 3 kilometers of KRG land, make it a joint Turkey-ISF operation and the US won't say anything. As long as ISF leaves Arbil and Suleymaniyah alone the US is unlikely to intervene.

Sinjar is already lost to KRG, ISF controls both main highway roads in Sinjar district, the city of Sinjar and the border region.

I agree, we should come to such a position once and for all so they can't blackmail us or stop anything. Border gate is the most important, but I don't know what erdoğan is thinking because he can be change in 1 day.

Let's hold a moment of silence for Barzani; a fool that singlehandedly destroyed his whole legacy in a heartbeat.

Having said that, we shouldn't forget that destroying the KRG is not in the interest of Turkey. I know, right now everyone is emotional and happy but a weak KRG is the best thing that can happen to Turkey. Bağdat is still effectively not independent. We shouldn't forget this. This operation is flat out Iran's victory. According to various sources, Iran organized this attack and Iranians are effectively leading this major op alongside with Iranian trained militias.

A balance of power in Iraq is the best option for Turkey.

This means that we need a border gate under the control of the central government of Iraq bypassing KRG border gates for business purposes.

Emotionally, I want a strong, stable, nationalist Arab İraq with a centralized power. An independent and rich country as a neighbor with the best infrastructure and universities on this planet. We would benefit immensely from such a neighbour. But the reality is different. And as long as they are basically the puppets of Tehran, we have to prepare for all scenarios.

After all, we're talking about the Middle East.

The minute İ see that Iraq is really an independent country pursuing her interests without Iranian/Us influence, we should abandon KRG for ever and ever. But I simply don't see this right now. Sad but true.

I was thinking the same. If ISF captues that border gate, it would mean completely isolating KRG, cutting their link with YPG and route for Iraq-Turkey trade.

Also, such a move would cut KRG's oil exports and Iraq can use it for exporting Kirkuk oil.

IMO, it would be the second most important objective after retaking Kirkuk.

With respect;
when Baghdad was effectively being ruled by the Kurds - (Jalal Talabani was president) - and Turkey was having problems with PKK infiltration through the porous Turkey-Iraq border, the central Government were not very sympathetic. They effectively pushed the Turks to work with the regional governments and to recognise their authority there.

President role is ceremonial, Maliki was ruling in the past. Turkey-Iraq relations were bad, Erdogan worked with Barzani and Nujaifi (Mosul governor) who hated Baghdad, Shias and the army. Thus, hostility from both sides.

Yes but as long as KRG exists, one day the US or some other global power will decide to use them again.

1-) Let's not forget that PKK operated (still operating) in the KRG area. Peshmergas did nothing to stop them. They even allow PKK bases in their areas.
2-) Our relationship with Iraqi government start to fall apart after our oil deal will KRG, which enabled KRG to undermine central governments authority.

I don't get it though, there's no deal with Barani, what happened in Kirkuk was hostile and Iraq benefitted from Kurdish internal disagreement. But there is only KDP and PKK in Nineveh region, is this the morale loss of the peshmerga?[/QUOTE] @TheCamelGuy

We have to fight against YPG/PKK aggressive and proactive, as SAA does. I respect them. Defence is not the solution. Otherwise next years we will see again peace negotiations with PKK in Turkey. This would be the end of AKParti and CHP. We should all prepare to vote MHP.
