ANKARA, Turkey, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan says the Turkish defense industry will begin producing attack helicopters next year.

Erdogan said mass production of Turkey's indigenous T-129 attack helicopters will begin in 2013 as part of the country's program to expand domestic production of military equipment.

"Today, Turkey meets 54 percent of the needs of the country's defense system," Erdogan said in a report on TRT Haber TV. "Our goal is fully provision with defense products through domestic production."

Erdogan added that Turkey intends to include the manufacturing of warships.

Turkey has previously exported armored vehicles, air defense systems, missile systems, light warships and helicopters, a trend that has seen its defense industry exports quadruple.

Turkish Aerospace Industries is the prime contractor for the T-129 attack helicopter, with Aselsan and AgustaWestland NV as the subcontractors, under a collaboration agreement in which TAI shares ownership of intellectual property rights for the new configuration with AgustaWestland NV.

TAI will also become the sole source for the production of the T-129's fuselage, including final assembly and flight operations, and will be responsible for marketing the "T-129 attack helicopters" for export.

What kind of helicopters?

I believe its referring to mass production of Turkey's indigenous T-129 attack helicopters.

Dont think so : Mass production of T-129 started only 1-2 months ago only 2 units roll out and they are given to Turkish Armed Forces already.

what about the result of your helicopter in south korea's attack chopper deal.

AHX bids were submitted to the South Korean Defense Acquisition Program Administration in May, and a decision is expected by the end of this year. So we still have to wait for a while to see the conclusion of the deal

Can you Imagine ? 50 T129 Atak´s versus 50 PKK Member´s :)

A littile masturbation !!! Think a scenario of whole TSK T-129 Atak units taking off to hunt some monkeys.

91 T-129 Atak-B X 600 munition (20mm) = 54,600 munitions ready
76 unguided rockets X 91 Atak-B : 6916 unguided rockets to be fired
12 Cirit (standart configuration) x 91 Atak-B : 1092 Cirit laser guided missiles to be fired
or
12 UMTAS X 91 Atak-B : 1091 UMTAS AT Missile to create a hell for enemy tanks...

No country can withstand against such a heavy surprise copter attack in this region...
:)

Actually these helicopters still not ready for mass production because they are not tested enough. Probably
the helicopters still have serious bugs in software system and some other hardware issues otherwise we wouldnt
read news articles (3 months ago) that a T-129 crashed during test flight.

I don't remember this article, could you provide a link ? May be you speak about UAV MALE ANKA ?

The production of T-129A already started a few months ago and TSK will use it against kekos next summer ;)

Dude that was at the starting of that project, the crashed one was one of the first prototypes, later prototypes successfully completed the tests, and it was not 3 months ago, thats happened in 2010.
