Turkey tightens airspace requirements on Israeli flights: report

Turkey has imposed tighter restrictions on Israeli cargo flights entering its airspace that have resulted in economic losses for Israeli companies, Israeli daily Haaretz reported.

The Israeli cargo flights were subjected to the measures for carrying dangerous material on board, including batteries and perfume.

Turkey has requested a 10-day prior notice for any flights that might be transporting similar substances, after which a further review will take place, authorities said.

The new restrictions have resulted in losses for Israeli companies that direct their Far East flights through Turkish airspace. Companies suffering losses have made demanded Israeli authorities tighten regulations against Turkish planes as a counter act.

An Israeli executive told Haaretz that they saw the recent changes as "a very serious move by Turkey."

Turkey’s relationship with Israel was severely strained in the aftermath of the Mavi Marmara incident in which nine Turks were killed at the hands of Israeli commandos in 2010.

i mean, there is a lot of Arab countries that would let us pass trough their airspace. so we dont have a problem here...

This is pretty harsh from our government. Take a look at the map and you will see that Israel has pretty much no alternative for the far-east flights and I'm against it because we shouldn't mix politics and economics. This will also hurt our businesses.

i dont know what exactly is in those cargo flights, but to be honest Israel kind of asked for it!

this is politics, and politics ain't clean. you win some you loose some. to bad for the Israeli companies. we wont have that much trouble as we have good relations with countries around middle east. so airspace wont be a huge problem.

I think it's pretty fair to demand more information about the gods being flown, I mean if Iran is being subjected to inspection, why shouldn't Israel submit to same security measures ?

Israel is pretty much considering Turkey as an enemy, the only thing lacking is that the foreign minister comes out and says it to the media.

Israel forbade the israeli defense company from trading with Turkey, based on fears that Turkey would give it to Iran, I guess we have grounds to have same fears, Israel dealing with countries that are not friendly towards Turkey tit for tat, right ?

No, Turkey considers Israel an annoyance, a country who kills 8 +1 turkish citizen on an NGO mission and doesn't even apologise. Not once has any Turkish ministers called israel an enemy. Let me try to explain what is Israel's fault once more, you may claim that Mavi Marmara Aid is a propaganda mission, let us assume that you are right, even so;

YOU CAN NOT MASSACRE CIVILIANS who,

-sail in international waters or anywhere in the world even in Israel too ,
-are unarmed (pls dont tell funny Israelean claims about screwdrivers, hammers, hand tools etc or fruit knives)

This not the first ''unfortunate'' incident that Israel killed activists.... Remember ''Rachel Corrie'' run over by freaking bulldozer intentionally!! Israel called her terrorist, AIPAC bribed politicans and officals called her terrorsist.

People on that ship knew that there would be bloodshed if they resist and they choose to resist even if this spiritual act of resistent was futile. It was their choice to risk their lifes and it was Netanyahu goverments choice to kill activists...

I stated this months ago that Turkey will do this, in fact the Turkish government warned Israel of what it got itself into. Additional sanctions and measures will follow without a doubt and the funny thing in the news report it mentions that El Al or whatever these cargo companies are called wrote to the Israeli government asking them to do the same thing. Turkey is a big country dear Israel, but Israel is a small country that will cost nothing for international flights to avoid

Reality has a habit of reminding fanatics in Israel just how moronic they are Honestly those guys should be voted out since they are a danger to Israel itself.
