Turkic people are are Asians but Turkish people of modern day turkey although their origin is from central Asia over the centuries they have become more Middle Eastern and East European. They are pretty much Europeans minus Christianity.

Well, there is no conflict line South vs North, only West vs East, so you either with the East or with the West. May be in the new world without countries who wants no conquer the whole Earth Russia could choose to be neither East, nor West, but now Russia is the East.

Geographically majority of Russia lies in the North but that region is very sparsely populated while talking of Russia people mostly assume it to be Eastern European country. Might sound strange but geography not always determines which region or sphere a country belongs to. Like South and Central America is in West but are not considered part of the west. Like wise Aus and NZL are in East but are considered part of West.

Russians are Northern/Eastern Europeans and Christians - this is not an obstacle to be Eastern country. It is matter of conscious choice, not of geography or destiny.
