This is interesting because if look at proven reserves of 300 million barrels and that of Pakistan has an estimated 25.1 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of proven gas reserves of which 19 trillion are located in Balochistan.

Your link states the coal field is 5th Largest in the world and not that the coal reserves are 5th largest in the world.

Potential of hydropower projects needs to be tapped and they all require perenial source of water.

India has run out of its energy potential .It has to IMPORT OIL,GAS,ELECTRICITY.

The fact are different if you refer to sources I provided, but I do agree that Pakistan has lots of energy potential which is untapped.

US itself is a biggest importer of OIL.

From India's perspective having alternate source of energy makes more sense even if it is bit expensive. Also its blessing in disguise if under US pressure India also plans for alternate source of energy.

oil from Central Asian countries like Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and even Georgia be transported through Turkey's massive pipeline infrastructure to Ceyhan port. Traveling through the Mediterranean Sea in super tankers, the oil will then be fed into Israel's Ashkelon-Eilat pipeline, while super tankers pick it off from the Gulf of Aqaba port of Eilat and back again on super tankers to India.

1)I say turks way will be much cheaper for India.Transit fees to turkey. freight charges to super tanker transit fees to Israel and again freight charges to super tanker to India.

2)one single pipe line through Pakistan one transit fee.

Iam convinced i say indians should go with turks.

India cant invest in a pipeline that goes through pakistan!!Everyday we are hearing some blast in pipeline in pakistan!!once you cant keep your pipeline secured,i doubt india will risk its entire ecomomy on pakistan!!its not about money...its all about the safety of of pipelines...we dont mind buying oil from iran/iraq or turkey and export it via oil containers,paying 20% more for same oil we can get from pak...


India just cant rely on pakistan.its not coz of strategic interest...we dont feel that pipes will be safe in pakistan...Taliban and other terrorists keep targeting pipelines in pak !!
Taliban is at its peak.Taibanis use their religion to gain public support and they can easily hide/regroup and later attack hard on govt!! i dont know how china is investing their money in pakistan.But i also read that china is only investing to make products for the local market consumption in pakistan.it has invested only in telecom and local manufacturing which have no connection with export!!
There has been no large investment with any motive to produce/manufacture in pak and export to china.(.WHile india is investing in bhutan,srilanka,nepal to manufacture and export it back to india)!!so their investment is mainly limited to gwadar!!USA will never let pakistan stay stable,given china is a threat to USA !! .

From recent developments ,it seems future is more dark for pak...Political parties dont have a fixed policy..They are fighting among themselves.They take help of other countries media to humiliate their own country!! It seems pakistanis lack feeling of nationalism!!


India can never depend on gas from pak .
Probably once this mess(taliban/terrorism) is cleaned then india govt might consider!!

Your tankers have to pass through Pakistan...who's to stop terrorists with speed boats and ATGMs in such a scenario? Or on the political front, who's to stop the PN from just blocking those tankers off? The only other way is to ship the oil from some port in Africa and directly go to South India...but then there's Sri Lanka & Yemen...countries small or poor enough for Sino-Pak influence.

Still might be cheaper than what India currently buys oil at, considering that they are offering such a possibility means it is economically feasible.

Shipping oil from Turkey will not be cheaper than getting oil through a pipeline which flows through Pakistan. Oil pipelines are the cheapest way. Your minister is just being delusional if he's suggesting tankers would be cheaper than pipelines.

There is also the problem that, if any of the countries wanted to, Turkey, Israel, Yemen, any of the Gulf States, they could rocket the price of oil to India by just charging extortionate amounts of money for transporting the oil to India. And India of course would have to buy it.

China ready to join IPI gas project

ISLAMABAD: China has said it was ready to join Pakistan and Iran in their gas pipeline project if India did not, sources told Daily Times on Sunday.

Pakistan plans to import 2.2 billion cubic feet of gas a day from Iran under the project, and has said it was willing to consume an additional 1.05 billion cubic feet if India did not join the project.

Sources said that China had told Pakistan it was interested in importing the additional gas if India did not join in. They said Iran had no objection to exporting gas to China.

In case China joined the project, the pipeline might pass through Gilgit, they said, where Pakistan has already approved a project to widen the Karakoram Highway. Pakistan also plans to extend a railway track to China to connect it to the Gwadar port. Chinese experts would visit Pakistan to finalise the route of the pipeline if it joined the project, they said.

The Pakistani law ministry had vetted a draft of the Gas Sale and Purchase Agreement, they said, but it had not been signed because of differences between India and Pakistan over the transit fee for the pipeline.

Pakistan had invited India to negotiate the fee on February 7 and 8 but India said it would talk to an elected Pakistani government after the February 18 elections.

Iran and Pakistan may sign the agreement on February 24, a date proposed by Iran, they said.

Pakistan had earlier proposed the agreement be signed on January 25 in Abu Dhabi, but sources said Iran had told Pakistan it would only sign the agreement with an elected Pakistani government.

International waters do not exist so close into the Arabian Sea. Strictly speaking Pakistani waters would extend all over the mouth of the Persian Gulf.

The Arabian Sea is not a bathtub. There is enough of manoeuvre space.

The tankers from Turkey are not coastal shipping that they have to hug the coastline!

The contention of PN trying to block tankers, reminds me of Shelley's "If winter comes, can spring be far behind?"

Sri Lankan and Indian relationship should not be seen with such a narrow prism. That apart, the size of Navies and the proximity to India has to be taken into consideration while fantasising Sri Lankan power to create blockades!

Yemen? What's the size of its Navy?

And lastly, one must not forget the nation that is so keen to ensure that the tanker routes are clear of any obstructions! Guess!

No taxes can be imposed on shipping in international waters!
