Turkey marks 81st anniversary of modern Turkey founder Atatürk’s death

.
I actually wish he kept the Beard he looks so cool with the beard.

His military exploits in Libya is my favourite and also the most underrated part of his military career.

True. He looks good with a beard.

I just want to say Turkish nation had a very loyal son of the soil. A visionary for the nation, a leader like this sets a nation in motion for progress. Just wish we Pakistani saw Jinnah live longer to see his vision come through.

For others his a hero for the other side his a villain.

You can say the same for a lot figures in the past.

Ataturk was no Hitler figure or a man of evil he was just a patriot that fought to save the country at its darkest times.

His like Optimus Prime.

It depends which Mexicans. I'm against Benito Juárez.
Yes indeed many consider him as a hero but in reality he wanted the French out because he was a backward dictator who hated modernization and the French were building many things including universities

I'm honestly not all that familiar with that period. I've read more about the Mexican Revolution.

As for Juárez...... if you mean modernization in the sense of technology, I'm not sure but if you mean modernization in the sense of secularization.... I think he was pushing for the removal of religion from Mexican life and undermining the Church.

I think the conservatives were supporting the French and the French were out to install a socially conservative regime.

I don't think he was "backwards" in the sense people tend to use that term. I think he was "progressive"- but that's exactly why I'm against him. I'm in favor of a socially conservative society. Also, Juárez was a freemason. I see him as a bad guy. I think he's more popular with leftist types.

How you interpret history and how you evaluate historical figures will vary in accordance with your beliefs.

I like General Zia, I think he was a good guy.... and as far as Hispanic historical figures, I think the one I like the best of the 20th century is General Francisco Franco. I think José Antonio Primo de Rivera was interesting also.

Well my Mexican teacher said he was evil that’s why he didn’t like French because they were doing good things

As I understand it, Mexican society was undergoing a war between liberals and conservatives. Juaréz was part of the liberal faction and the French were aligned with the conservatives. It was a political thing.

When I was younger I didn't understand the importance of this man. I thought he was an enemy if Islam.
But now, I actually see him as making changes in Turkey that have allowed it to be a bastion of Islam in Europe.

His modernization of the country has allowed it to be one of the, if not the most advanced Muslim country in the world. And with that development comes real power to protect its people.
