Turkey Finds Energy in Black Sea as Erdogan Vows a New Era

Just buy it! Better. Problem: UK government needs to allow for sale. Even if the company is going bankrupt! We live in a time of technology war. Do they allow this? Suspicious.

GAS HYDRATE

The Black Sea is considered rich in terms of gas hydrates .... do you know what about gas hydrate ?
one unit hydrate gas is equivalent to 164 units natural gas

Now the natural gas detected in the Black Sea will be reached, then down to the hydrate gas layer .. that means to provide Turkiye's hundreds of years of natural gas by rich gas hydrate reserves

Turkiye has technology to reach the gas-hydrate fields under the sea ... but now there is no country other than the US, Russia and Japan that has the technology for hydrate-gas extraction

Gas hydrate is a difficult resource to extract. It's not impossible, but it's like colonizing Mars. it is not economical. Usually the people who write about this topic are people who are not related to this job. I am in the industry and I speak like that.

Yes Gas hydrate is a difficult resource to extract.

but The US did it .... and the Alaska North Slope contains an estimated 53 trillion cubic feet of natural gas hydrate resources.
not in 2020 but economically feasible gas hydrate production is on the near horizon between 10 and 15 years

Japan will run its first methane hydrate production test jointly with the US on the Alaska North Slope following drilling works in fiscal 2021
so to develop methane hydrate technology to start a pilot project led by the US-Japan over five years

Turkiye can not extract Gas hydrate .. but Turkiye maybe can work with the US-Japan to extract huge Gas hydrate resources in the Black Sea and in the Eastern Mediterranean in 2030s ( though will the US do this for Turkiye ? I doubt it )

I bet in 2023.
:D Yes we have money. But IMO it takes 7-10 years for gas to start selling. This is only and only possible, a) western companies cooperate for us and b) we acquire (or hire) a western company on specializing in deep-sea drilling.

no it is possible in 3 years.

There's always SOCAR as a potential partner, but I don't know if they have expertise in that field or not.

The most important thing in such matters is money. You can build it quickly if you give the money enough. Three years is enough time, and you can find many other companies if some companies avoid to do it, kind of embargo, not 3 billion, but 5 billion or 7 billion by be paid we can make someones build it, chinese, russian or western companies. The main issue here was to find this reserve. And we found it.

Turkish president: New gas reserves found in Black Sea

- President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to visit Fatih drillship Saturday to announce size of new gas reserve

Turkey's president said on Wednesday that the country found new natural gas reserves in the Black Sea.

Speaking to the parliamentary group of his ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party, Recep Tayyip Erdogan said more good news will follow after the announcement of the gas discovery in the Black Sea in August 2020. Turkey's drillship Fatih had discovered 320 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the Black Sea.

"We will go to our drillship Fatih on Saturday, personally witness the efforts on site and announce the volume of the new reserve," he said.

Amid efforts to find domestic hydrocarbon resources, the Fatih discovered the TUNA-1 well in the Sakarya Gas Field around 170 kilometers (106 miles) off Turkey's northern coast.

The discovery was the biggest in Turkey's history. Officials have said the gas from the well would be ready for public use in 2023.

Slowly turning into a theatrical play, and makes people loose their hope on the gas reserves.

Turkey has made an energy discovery in the Black Sea, most likely natural gas, two people with direct knowledge of the matter said Wednesday.

The two officials spoke after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan promised to deliver Turks some “good news” on Friday that would usher in a new era for the nation. He has also vowed to pursue energy exploration in contested Mediterranean waters that has triggered confrontations with the European Union. The president’s office declined to comment.

The size and depth of the discovery, and whether it will be feasible to extract it, remain unclear.

The Turkish leader didn’t elaborate on what he intended to announce, but the lira extended gains against the dollar after the news and was trading 2% stronger at 5:45 p.m. local time. After he spoke, the benchmark Borsa Istanbul 100 Index had also risen 2%, while shares of refiner Turkiye Petrol Rafinerileri AS, or Tupras, and petrochemical manufacturer Petkim Petrokimya Holding AS jumped 8.1% and 9.9% respectively.

Turkish Energy Minister Fatih Donmez said last month that the Turkish drilling ship Fatih had started exploration in the so-called Tuna-1 zone, located off Turkey’s western Black Sea coast.

The discovery comes at a time of heightened tensions over territorial disputes with Greece and Cyprus in the eastern Mediterranean, where Turkey is actively searching for oil and gas resources in contested waters. France has temporarily increased its military presence to ward off Turkish steps, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Wednesday said the EU was concerned over the increased tensions in the area.

Erdogan said on Wednesday the pressure wouldn’t make him change direction.

“No colonialist power can deprive our country from rich oil and gas resources estimated to be in this region,” he said in televised remarks on Wednesday during the opening of a solar energy factory near Ankara.
