Turkey concerned over Syrian unrest
Turkey says it is closely watching the unrest in neighboring Syria as it cautions against use of excessive force on pro-reform demonstrators.
Turkeys Foreign Ministry on Tuesday said the Turkish ambassador to Damascus, Omer Onhon, is monitoring the situation. Onhon is expected to travel to Turkey to brief Turkeys National Security Council, which gathers civilian and military leaders, on Thursday.
During a telephone call Monday U.S. President Barack Obama and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan voiced their concern over what the White House called "the Syrian governments unacceptable use of violence against its own people."
Turkey has urged Syria to press ahead with reforms and to implement them without delay.
