Turkey Calls for Expansion of Parliamentary Ties with Iran
TERAN (FNA)- Turkish National Assembly Speaker Ismail Kahraman underlined the need for the further expansion of Ankara-Tehran relations, specially between the two countries' parliaments.
"I hope that the two countries of Turkey and Iran will broaden their mutual cooperation, specially in the parliamentary field," Kahraman said in a message to his Iranian counterpart Ali Larijani on Saturday.
Kahraman also congratulated Larijani on the occasion of his reelection as Iran's parliament speaker.
In late May, Iranian First Vice-President Eshaq Jahangiri underlined his country's readiness to further expand mutual cooperation with Turkey.
Jahangiri made the remarks in a congratulatory message to Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim felicitating him on his appointment to the top post.
"Tehran-Ankara relations should be broadened based on the deeply-rooted cultural, historical and religious relations between the two countries," the Iranian first vice-president said.
In mid-April, Iran and Turkey signed 8 cooperation agreements in a bid to broaden bilateral ties.
The agreements were signed in the presence of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara.
Under the deals, Iran and Turkey agreed to cooperate in social security matters, fight against goods smuggling, including antiquities, food and agriculture, legal and academic affairs, industrial standard and technical research, standardization, justice and judicial training.
