What's new

Tunisia - References to Islam will not be included in the new constitution.

Separation of church and state is a great first step.

Sadiq Belaid, charged by the President Kais Saied with rewriting Tunisia's constitution said on Monday that he would present a draft stripped of any reference to Islam, arguing it was to prevent political "extremism".

You forget to talk about Jews, we have a big community of Jews living in Tunisia.
How do they manage to survive in a 99% Sunni country?
Loolz, Actively discriminated and harassed ??? Like Muslims in India you mean? Or Palestinians in Palestine? Or Coptes in Egypt? Or Rohingyas in Myramar??
Whataboutism

Constitution is supposed to be largely above politics, thus it can refer to higher principles, to the Creator, or Higher Authority and Power such as God/Allah and submission to Allah [Islam]. On the other hand, religion is dragged into politics when it's name is slapped to a political party or to a country's state title.

Prophet Muhammad never call Madinah as Islamic State of Madinah.

For political party it is their brand, not your business

Here Indonesia Planning Minister is Chairman of PPP. It is his party logo

For religious minorities, yes
Really not my problem if you are Islam hater....

Still minorities lived in the Muslims countries peacefully for centuries.

This is can be said to other religions and civilazitions.

Erroneous comparison. Muslim is not about being Eastern in culture, race, or ethnicity. Also, Muslim in faith will never call themselves Islamist. Islam is not a political tool.

Quran 2-177
Righteousness is not that you turn your faces toward the east or the west, but [true] righteousness is [in] one who believes in Allāh, the Last Day, the angels, the Book, and the prophets and gives wealth, in spite of love for it, to relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveler, those who ask [for help], and for freeing slaves; [and who] establishes prayer and gives zakāh; [those who] fulfill their promise when they promise; and [those who] are patient in poverty and hardship and during battle. Those are the ones who have been true, and it is those who are the righteous.

Of course Muslim is about faith, many white Western US citizens are also Muslim.

What I said is that related to context, we are talking about constitution in Tunisia, related to Muslim nation.

You are talking about kicking out Islam in Muslim world politics.

You are as Australian citizen, has less credibility in talking about that, leave the matter to Muslim who live in Muslim countries

You are practising discrimination against a nationality by using religion. That is the problem. Islam is not for this purpose. It is not political.

What non political ?

Only Muslim countries who condemn US with their support of making Jerusalem as Israel capital.

Your country Australia wanted to acknowledge Jerusalem as well as Israel capital, but their action get backlashed from Indonesia foreign ministry, Australia then cancel the plan

Do you think this Indonesian condemnation on USA foreign policy and its effort to block Australia from acknowledging Jerusalem dont have anything to do with Islam politics and interests ?

And recent event also shows about Muslim nations condemnation on India, where only Muslim nations who do the condemnation, do you think it is not related to politics ???

The application of Islam politics is vary, dont use example in Iran and Afghanistan (Taliban) as the benchmark, it varies between Muslim nations

Individuals have faith and a country is not an individual.

We can fight for Muslim and human rights without dirtying the name of Islam in politics. A Muslim is not an Islamist. Muslim means one who is with Islam in faith. It is not a political, ethnic, or cultural label which is very clear from Quran 2-177. Quran is the Furqan.
