If I remember reading correctly it was 10-20 martyred with 40-50 Injured..

Public and political backlash and media backlash. The people simply did not support the army taking action against them. The people at that time had a huge soft heart for the terrorists and this operation was one of the main reasons for the huge hatred for the army that followed and became the down fall of musharraf.

The political parties saw it as an opportunity to demonize the army and musharraf whereas the media spread massive lies including chemical attacks ( some still believe in it which was flash grenade i think) and massacre of students and girls.

The operation of lal masjid is your classic example of why political and public support is required to take action. The army cannot do it alone.

It highlights the nation that we demonized and blamed musharraf for taking the same action against terrorists that raheel took and yet one was hailed while the other demonized. The difference simply being the era of 2008-2013. That five year period changed the public support and the once so called mujahideen ( as the people referred to them) became terrorists that must be killed.


The effect is that to this day nobody attacks lal masjid due to fear and the political powers use it for their own strength.
