He has not laid down his arms, he intends to carry on his jihad in Afghanistan. Its not that he smelled 'ulterior motives' of TTP, he was removed from shura and has no choice but to try for reconcilation. Honestly speaking, punjabi taliban group was not that much significant in TTP's operations (do not confuse lashkar e jangvi with punjabi taliban derived from JEM). Punjabi taliban didnt have more than 150 members back in 2010 according to reports. Its defection of Sajna group which has broken the spine of TTP, credit must be given to ISI for the achievement.
The most irreconcilable elements among taliban are those who are directly influenced by wahabis/alqaida. Big example is omar khalid khorasani, turns out he was running his own shadow organizations without hakimullah's , fazlullah's , and Shura's knowledge. And was sabotaging any kind of reconcilation of taliban with pakistan. There is no cure for them, they are like ISIS. The rest are not different than asmatullah mauwia or sajna.

How ever laid down their weapons or even sided with the army, received the same treatment . Sajna n his group r a good case in point. They received the same treatment by just siding with the army declaring their alligences to the state rather than ttp.
N the list goes on. 90% of the militants don't want to fight the army or the state. But before the current opp. The risks were too great n even ment death but with the dismantling of ttp, for such groups it became must easier to show their true intentions, n that's wt we r seeing.

Presently biggest threat to Pakistan’s internal security & well-being is the sectarian killings. Let us wait & see if TTP Punjab can also influence their LeJ allies to stop targeting Shia notables & Hazaras; then ‘tit for tat killing’ by Shia militants will also cease.

If this were to happen, I would be the first one to argue for assimilating TTP Punjab into main stream politics.

Not surrender coz of love for state, sleeping in sleeper cells as per their masters advice fear of operation, sanp ka kam dasna hi hota hai even you pull out poison they stop to bite you. I read somewhere some or majority of them move their war in Afghanistan to help afghan Taliban.
