Ouch... next to loss of life, seeing these phenomenally expensive machines tossed about like garbage on a beach is very painful. Even if not visibly damaged, the salt water will destroy them unless they are completely taken apart and cleaned.

I guess the Authorities would rather save lives than jets. Agreed that lives are lost is too sad and depressing,
but on other hand, seeing this happen is too cruel too !!

Isn't there any contingency plan- that when such disaster occurs- every asset of air force should be in air within no time- and land in a friendly country or safe place-

I am truly amazed to see that-

Their F-15 were not on that base.
These are the pictures of Matsushima Air Field and the F-2s that are damaged are of 21st Fighter Training Squadron.
With the airfield located just off the beach the tidal waves also pulled the T-4 Aircraft of Japan's famed Blue Impulse from hangars scattering among the buildings of the base.

It will be write off if the water goes to the airframes! Oh damn expensives jet wasting!

am really wondering how the millitary assets can be saved duering these kind of disasters.....

is the submarine or naval ships has the capability to survive Tsunamis..?

What was the time between quake and tsunami? It happened in the afternoon. If people were available, they could have said "Get every jet you can into the air NOW and send them inland. GO GO GO!" They had to know the tsunami was coming.

Just ONE of those jets washing away costs more than an entire neighborhood of regular homes. But of course people always come first.

Don't know about submarine, but Ships can survive tsunamis in deep water. In shallow water none of them stand any chance

Are these jets repairable or completely useless. Chogy said something about the salt water eating up. Isnt aluminum and other composite materials resistive to corrosion.

.
^ the real damage would be to engine, avionics and other electronics
