Tsunami Stroked Japanese F-2 jets

What was the time between quake and tsunami? It happened in the afternoon. If people were available, they could have said "Get every jet you can into the air NOW and send them inland. GO GO GO!" They had to know the tsunami was coming.

Just ONE of those jets washing away costs more than an entire neighborhood of regular homes. But of course people always come first.

The earthquake took place at 14:46 local time and the first wave of tsunami was observed at 15:55 local time that flooded Sendai Airport. So there was a gap at least an hour which is quite an ample time by aviation standards.
One reason in my opinion is that these jets might be under overhauling but the pictures don't suggest that.

Modern metals in jets are resistant to salt, but not immune. Jets for Naval Aviation need expensive additional protection and a lot of maintenance to keep corrosion manageable.

Submerged/immersed avionics are probably land-fill... not even repairable. Hydraulic systems would have to be completely bled, flushed multiple times, and the pumps likely replaced. Salt water that makes it into voids would sit there and eat away at structural components. Jet engines would need to be taken apart to the last nut and bolt, because even a few drops of salt water between flanges or mounting points would create unstoppable corrosion. It is a terrible problem, and for some of these jets, it might be cheaper to simply replace it rather than repair it.

am really wondering how the millitary assets can be saved duering these kind of disasters.....

is the submarine or naval ships has the capability to survive Tsunamis..?

You got the answer.
From submarine Point of view, they are usually inside the ocean, where you dont have much effect of the waves.
So its obvious isint it ??

Waves travel through the water, not above them. Its like a huge wall of water moving! If the Tsunami is strong enough, it may cause damage to a submarine, like maybe carry it a considerable distance and smash it against the continental shelf.

hmm actually i was thinking of our navel assets when tsunami hits andaman islands in 2004

.
well but F 15 still not been harmed and why they were waitting for that tsunami to hit them why not they flied them

Man, those jets are f@cking expensive, it costs 100 million per unit.

Dunno how Japan could sustain the price for of their own stealth fighter. :help:

. .
127 million actually and I'm guessing over 300 million for the stealth fighter.

Realistically speaking, this disaster will effectively postphone their stealth project. They now have a country to rebuild and cut backs will have to be made. Lets hope the emergence of this saturday's supermoon won't add salt to their wound..
