President Donald Trump will announce Wednesday that the United States recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and will eventually relocate its embassy there — a declaration that could spur violent protests in the Middle East and undermine the White House’s effort to strike a peace deal between Israel and the Palestinians.

Trump is making the announcement despite criticism from numerous U.S. allies, including France, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, which have urged him to avoid the extremely sensitive topic.

The president is still open to the possibility of a two-state solution, and he understands that the final borders of Israel and a future Palestinian state remain subject to negotiations, senior administration officials told reporters Tuesday.

Trump will also not declare that Jerusalem must be the “undivided” capital of Israel, an official told POLITICO.

Such caveats appear to leave room for Palestinians to at least claim East Jerusalem as their territory in a future state. Regardless, the administration officials insisted, Trump is not concerned that recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital will derail the peace process, because he sees it as an affirmation of reality.

The Global Politico
Susan B. Glasser’s weekly podcast takes you backstage in a world disrupted.

“While President Trump recognizes that the status of Jerusalem is a highly sensitive issue, he does not think it will be resolved by ignoring the simple truth that Jerusalem is home to Israel’s legislature, its supreme court and the prime minister, and as such is the capital of Israel,” one of the officials said, adding: “Delaying the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel has done nothing to achieve peace for more than two decades.”

Trump will direct the State Department to devise plans to move the U.S. Embassy from Israel to Jerusalem, but that process, the officials said, could take several years. Although in theory the president could simply switch the sign at the existing U.S. consulate in Jerusalem to say “embassy,” the administration says it wants to wait until an appropriate site is selected, proper security is in place and a host of other personnel issues are addressed.

Trump will continue to sign a national security waiver that allows the U.S. to keep its embassy in Tel Aviv for now — a process that comes up every six months under a 1995 law passed by Congress that requires moving the embassy to Jerusalem. Trump needs to sign the waiver so that State Department funding cuts aren’t triggered by the law, the senior officials said.

U.S. and foreign officials predicted that Trump’s decision would spark a possibly violent backlash in the Muslim world and badly damage America’s ability to be seen as an honest broker in a peace process — an initiative being led by Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.

Already, the State Department has urged embassies worldwide to upgrade security and has restricted U.S. diplomats’ movements in Israel and the Palestinian territories, where demonstrations are expected starting Wednesday.

“U.S. citizens should avoid crowds and areas with increased police and/or military presence,” the department’s consular bureau said in a travel notice.

Both Israelis and Palestinians claim Jerusalem as their capital. But the U.S. and most of the rest of the world have long declined to take a position on the fate of the holy city, saying it’s a topic to resolve during negotiations.

Peace negotiators have long envisioned that Jerusalem would be divided between the two sides. And U.S. presidents, despite their campaign rhetoric, have for years been signing waivers delaying the move of the embassy.

The senior administration officials stressed that Trump remains committed to the Middle East peace process. Kushner, who also serves as a top White House adviser, has been working on a peace plan for several months.

The process has been largely shrouded in secret, involving only a handful of Trump aides. But a Trump recognition of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital could throw a wrench into the plan, U.S. officials and analysts say, by making the Palestinians unwilling to trust the Americans.

Trump has spoken this week to several foreign leaders, including Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Jordanian King Abdullah II, in order to outline his intentions.

Abbas warned Trump of the “grave consequences” of moving the embassy, stating that such a decision would result in “detrimental consequences on the peace process and the prospects for the internationally endorsed two-state solution.”

In light of Trump’s planned announcement, the Palestinian delegation in Washington announced that it was canceling a Christmas celebration planned for Wednesday.

“Out of care for our leaders and children, it might be unsuitable for them to speak and sing shortly after the possibility of an announcement that runs counter to the message of peace,” the delegation said in a statement.

The Jordanian monarch warned Trump that “the decision will have serious implications that will undermine efforts to resume the peace process and will provoke Muslims and Christians alike,” according to a statement from the Jordanian government.

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also expressed “deep concerns” about the possible move in a statement. European allies, including France, have also weighed in, urging Trump to avoid taking a position on Jerusalem.

The president relishes being unpredictable, and he is known to often change his mind at the last minute. But for days now, White House aides have been indicating that Trump is determined to break with tradition, noting that he promised during the 2016 presidential campaign that he would move the embassy.

Trump has already proven hard to persuade on a number of issues that have broad international support. He has said the U.S. is pulling out of the Paris climate agreement, for one, and has also abandoned the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal. More recently, he decided to pull the U.S. out of an international effort to come up with a new framework for dealing with refugees.

What to do about Jerusalem is an issue that has sparked fierce internal debate, with Trump’s advisers warning that the move could threaten prospects for a peace deal. But the senior administration officials briefing reporters on Tuesday said the ultimate decision was borne of a collaborative effort.

They added that various U.S. agencies were prepared for potential unrest as a result of the president’s decision.

I think this is super dumb as it will piss off the Saudi and then you can kiss good bye to the Petro-Dollar once USA lose the its status as world reserve currency and the ability to print money and than what? Re-Industrialize? HAHAHA yeah right, given the unwillingness from the right side capitalist to invest and the left side union to negotiate giving up its perks, good luck trying. This proves Trump is high-jacked by the Wall Street and the Israel Zionist Jewish lobbyist to do such short sighted move. Once the Dollar lose its world reserve currency status all that Dollar it previously printed thru Quantitative Easing will come back and cause Zimbabwe-like hyperinflation that's why I am hoarding my BitCoin, gold, ammo and have a getaway farm have food and water ready to be as self independent reliance as possible, its gonna be like Venezuela chaos

Hamas plans 'day of rage' in response to Trump's Jerusalem decision

By Lukas Mikelionis | Fox News

World weighs on Trump plan to move US embassy to Jerusalem

The move ends the long-time policy that Jerusalem's final statues would be determined by peace talks; Conor Powell has the latest for 'Special Report.'

Terror group Hamas is calling for a “day of rage” Friday, urging Palestinians to protest President Donald Trump’s plan to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital and move the U.S. Embassy there from Tel Aviv.

The group, designated a terrorist organization by the U.S., encouraged Palestinians in an official Arabic statement to send a message “with all available means” to Israel after the upcoming Friday prayers.

It added that making Jerusalem the Israeli capital was crossing a “red line.”

The significance of Trump moving the US embassy to Jerusalem

“We call on the people of Palestine to declare ‘rage day’ on Friday against Israel, denying the U.S. plan to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital,” the statement read.

It added: "The youth and the Palestinian resistance in the West Bank need to respond with all means available to the U.S. decision that harms our Jerusalem. Jerusalem is a red line and the resistance will not allow any desecration of it.”

Senior Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh also called upon people to stand against efforts to “Judaize” Jerusalem, according to the official group account in Arabic.

The warning follows reports that Trump will recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel on Wednesday and will move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to the Holy City, although the process could take up to four years to complete.

Hamas’ English social media accounts, which tend to offer a watered-down version of hostile statements, said the Palestinian leadership urges Palestinians to organize “demonstrations” against Israel and the U.S.

“Palestinian factions declare days of anger on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and to hold demonstrations in cities and in front of Israeli embassies and consulates,” Hamas' Twitter account read.

According to Hamas’ charter, which outlines key principles and policies, the terror group aims to establish a state of Palestine “with Jerusalem as its capital” and states that “not one stone” of the city can be given up.

“Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine. Its religious, historic and civilizational status is fundamental to the Arabs, Muslims and the world at large. Its Islamic and Christian holy places belong exclusively to the Palestinian people and to the Arab and Islamic Ummah,” the charter reads.

“Not one stone of Jerusalem can be surrendered or relinquished. The measures undertaken by the occupiers in Jerusalem, such as Judaization, settlement building, and establishing facts on the ground are fundamentally null and void.”

Multiple Middle Eastern countries have come out against the decision to recognize Jerusalem, with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan saying Monday that moving the capital was a “red line” for Muslims.

It will lead to further struggles in the region. Care to elaborate, how is it re-balancing middle east?

Though, Trump's reckless actions have other good aspects. It may lead to removing of Israeli cancer from ME.

Obama tried to disengage from the Middle East and concentrate in East Asia. Trump is re-focusing in the Middle East and now adding Indo-Pacific to the list while increasing military presence in East Asia.

This decision, if goes through, may require the US to reinforce and mobilize forces in the Middle East.

This means further stretching US military and straining US economy.

In practical terms, this is good. A better option than the US moving more reservedly and through calculated action. I see these as signs of weaknesses, not strength.

However, for the short term, it may be disastrous for people in the region.

True.

On the other hand sir, Trump is uniting Muslim masses (With his stupidity).

I hope China well manages far east, with reducing tensions and making agreements with her neighbors. It is calculated without considering the potential of masses. We shall see, currently i hear a common voice from Islamic countries. Even Ale-Saud out of fear of Arabian Muslims, have announced their opposition to Trump's decision. Israeli cancer is receiving required medicine, thanks to that big mouth in Wash.D.C

9 Hours left in Trump to announce
Lets see if he can do it or not.
Announcement to come at 1800 GMT

LOL The Americans are really in confrontational mood. It is funny how they pretend that everything is smooth as butter when the ship is sinking before our eyes. What is even more funny is how they are seeking confrontation with so many nations around the world.

I'm not even going to delve into the ramifications of this latest move. America is becoming isolated. Each hour and every minute.

Trump is obsessed with pleasing the Israelites. He will go to extreme lengths to make his point. Even if Trump has to walk over dead bodies and displease 99% of the world.

Trump is a nasty blessing. Nasty in the sense that he won't beat around the bush. He is going to do things his way which is unorthodox and unconventional. We need more of this in the coming years.

We need more confrontation from Trumpland. This is good.

A leader who would ok , building projects over grave yard of Native Residents of America (On natural reserve land which was protected by previous president Obama's order) can't be expected to be seen as a proper world leader , it is a local American news but quite hush hush on international stage

I said this yesterday the jews have a habit of having a insidious and coercive effect on host nations, the host nation then will throw its own interests under the bus to carry out actions in favour of jews even if its own reputation or influence takes a hit
