WASHINGTON — President Trump, in a sharp reversal, told a gathering of farm state lawmakers and governors on Thursday morning that he was directing his advisers to look into rejoining the multicountry trade deal known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a deal he pulled out of days after assuming the presidency.

Rejoining the 11-country pact could be a significant change in fortune for many American industries that stood to benefit from the trade agreement’s favorable terms and Republican lawmakers who supported the pact. The deal, which was negotiated by the Obama administration, was largely viewed as a tool to prod China into making the type of economic reforms that the United States and others have long wanted.

WOW what a quick U-turn. the US signing the pact is extremely important by the economic and strategic perspective.

Doesn't matter, US will not win with TPP against China, China has the home field advantage: short trade route and more direct business contact with all Asian nations, we have huge market and connected to South Asia, South East Asia, North East Asia, Central Asia...we're at the center of Asia. If US want to play zero sum game with China over Asia, they're destined to be loser, China today can certain compete against US in trade and have economical leverage...and American should not blame China for their failure in Asia.

The Baltic countries, Finland, and the Ukraine all prefer US/EU vs Russia dispite bordering Russia.

You're map is wrong. Taiwan is a separate country.

It's "your" not "you're". Besides, neither the US nor Japan recognizes Taiwan as an independent country. Even if there is diplomatic or politic support for De facto rule, no nation known as Taiwan has ever existed. Not even the pro-independence Taiwanese people officially recognize it, as no referendum has passed changing the name from Republic of China to Taiwan. The name Taiwan is used by the People's Republic of China because its suggests that it is one of its provinces and its not a separate China. This is why Washington uses it, to avoid pissing off Beijing because they adhere to the "One China Policy" themselves.

"Taiwan" is to "Republic of China" just as "South Korea" is to "Republic of Korea".

Taiwan refers to just the island nation, not to a province of China. Official recognition is part of geopolitics but it doesn't change the actual facts. Liaoning has never docked at Taiwan because Liaoning is not part of Taiwan's navy.

the American people vote US president, not in our hands. Donald Trump now says he wants a better deal. Plus like Barrack Obama, he also realized he can kick China out of the game by TPP. I had expected he would come back but not so quickly. in any case it is a good news for Vietnam. in case you don´t know: TPP is governed by a commission. Vietnam with a small economy has the same voting right as giant economic powers as America and Japan.

Your supply chain is in China. That is how Song Hong plains manage to catch up Mekong delta, due to proximity to Guangzhou. If you are from north you need thank China.

You cant escape China even if you join TPP.

in trades nobody needs to thank anybody. China is not Red Cross. there are buyers and sellers on both sides. Thanks to proximity to Guangzhou? actually we would be better off if we were a country located in Europe, a continent of peace and prosperity. but as we can´t locate our country to Europe, we need to find a way to deal with the Chinese. with the people with a long history of arrogance and aggression. the lesser we have to do with the chinese, the better.
