USA will not have advantage in tech anymore. Because Chinese companies will take over, before the trade war they will usually buy USA tech. That will be no longer the case and they will have to buy domestic tech weather they like it or not.

Only if Chinese domestic companies can come up to speed and equal/surpass foreign firms on key technologies. Sure, I see this happening in the near future for certain things but China is still far far behind in many other key fields that are not easily replaceable.

Chinese think too much of themselves too much confident. Take network communications, the heart of Internet. US companies as Cisco, Arista, Juniper dominate 80 percent or so the market. Huawei has the niche as cheap component maker. Cost sensitive components buy Huawei. Companies such as Vodafone. The US techs let most of the devices to be assembled in China. Trump thinks Vietnam and other countries can make the components, assemble the devices.

Certainly it will take a while until we can replace China but that is not impossible as many chinese claim here. What we need is technology, money and Human Resources. The last factor is most important. Vietnam is running out of people, we can import foreign people.

During the period after the 2008 financial crisis and until Xi Jinping's early rule, the Chinese leadership got too nationalistic and arrogant. They thought that the No. 1 position will just be handed to them and stupidly thought the US would just let it happen since the American corporate community was deeply invested in China.

They thought wrong and now they are sweating because of it.

Regarding Huawei, the company has surpassed its competitors in the field of 5G. That is what is triggering this panic in Washington. That is a fact. If they continue to grow and develop as they have been, the US will never be able to catch up in the field of 5G, it actually has no viable competitor right now to Huawei. The closest Western competitor is Ericson and they are not based in the US.

I think Vietnam will definitely absorb some of China's losses in the trade war, but due to it's size and development right now, I think how much they can absorb will be limited. For many of the most sophisticated supply chains, it will be very difficult for them to relocate from China.

Vietnam will benefit but it won't be able to seize a massive portion of the US-China trade because Vietnam is not large enough of a country to absorb it. Plus, many of the supply chains are owned by Chinese in China and they do not solely supply the US so even if they do move some operations for the US market, it may not be all of it.

5G is a consequential technology. It will push the fourth industrial revolution. I think we will see the great impact it makes on society in the next 5 years.
