Trinamool Congress leader shot dead in West Bengal

The Hindu reports that cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) shot dead a local Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader in the Jhargram area of West Midnapore District on September 20. “A group of armed assailants waylaid Lalmohan Mahato when he was on his way to give tuitions at Pukuria village, and fired at him from point-blank range. He died on the spot. Posters claiming that Mahato was killed by the Maoists to avenge his attempt to build resistance against left-wing extremists were found at the spot,” said Gaurav Sharma, Superintendent of Police of Jhargram Police District. The killing was carried out allegedly by members of a Maoist squad, led by Jayanta, that operates in the Jhargram region.

Terming the killers “cowards who believe in the politics of violence,” Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee charged a section of the Maoists with trying to derail the peace process initiated by the State Government.

Meanwhile, the Maoists have embarked on a civic action programme in Purulia, West Midnapore and Bankura, running makeshift dispensaries and schools, reports Economic Times.

If my memory serves right, TTP came within 200 kms of your capital at one time and your Army is now fighting a high intensity war with them. On the otherhand Maoists are still confined to their jungle hideouts mainly in Central India and our Police are the one dealing with them upto now. So tell me which is a greater threat.

Both are a threat, but Communism and Maoism have a greater resonance in the poor than the ttp will ever have. That is the main threat.

No brother.If you look at Communist history in various nations we can see that they believe in direct action and don't play around with words.
