I can't answer all the question but I can say this for sure India is in no position to fight China on any front, China goes for Quantity vs quality but for the last 5 years China has gone both ways quantity and quality both, India predominantly relies on MK2 and SU-30 they don't understand Mirage 2000 vs J-10 A or B doesn't stand a chance in
Air -to-Air and Chinese are to many even on the ground.

As a nation that is poised to become a global power, India has to protect and safeguard itself from possible aggression. U cant have a economic powerhouse with weak security and defence apparatus. Great power comes with great responsibilities also.

Sure, Indians and Chinese both are capable of paralizing each other as far as nukes and its multiple strike capability are concerned but the question should be, would they do that to each other??? I dont think so!

which chinese threat is in question here?....chinese nuclear sub threat?? yes, once Arihanth is functional. more nuke subs needed tho and in a matter of time India will be operating few Arihants and akulas and couple of Aircraft carriers.that will do it.

China has a trillion dollar economy and it has to safegaurd it.

1.one any country in the world doesnt like competion . Same applies to China, It doesnt mean that China will attack india. Its huge armed forces will tilt the investor sentiment against inida.

2.The FIIs will look at the security of a country form long term perspective. So we have to show that we are secure from our threats. atleast we will have second strike capablities so that any one will think before attack. (whole point of INS Arihant)

3.Why you compare China with India..China is run by Communists. So they have better resources for their armed forces... Inida on other hand is a run by its people vote and it will take decades to catch China in that field.. what it plans is minimum second strike capblities.

4.peopele not going joining army is purely because PAY.......
well pay has to reviesed and it is long pending. cost of living has gone drastically up and pay has not gone up...

Finally India has 600 million poors getting $2 per day .. yes I agree. with that $2 in my state do you guys know what i can get
1. 1 kg of rice $0.02
2. cost per km of travel $0.2 in public transport
3. cost of unlimitted full meals avg $0.50
4. Rent of 1 single bedroom house $10 per month
5. Govt School .. Noon meals free for all kids with egg and fruits..
6. PDS suger $0.5 and entire spices supply for a family for month $1.2
etc. etc....

India is way better in terms of cost of living and you can live a happy life with just $4 per day... but there is a catch..........

why so many people are having malnutrition.... guess what
liquor cost $2 per bottle and the $2 they get goes directly to this shops ...

You are right, at the moment India can hardly defend itself against China, but not attack and be a threat for them. Also the numerical advantage that China has in many fields may remain for years. But I disagree about the qualitative advantage of PLAAF against IAF now. Moreover, I think IAF will clearly go ahead for qualitative reasons with the induction of LCA MK2, MMRCA and upg MKIs by 2014/15!
Why? Because at the moment China has only Su 30 and derivates that already have inferior techs than MKIs and J10A might be better than M2k, but you seem to forget that we also have Mig 29 that will be upgraded to SMT standart. All together there are more than 300 very capable fighters which will be a problem for China and don't forget these fighters will stay in the fleet with around 150 LCA MK2 and at least 126 MMRCA coming in a few years. Even with big numbers of J10 B, these fighters will be a big threat for PLAAF in numerical and quality reasons.

But the best move of India to counter a threat from China is without any doubt the INS Arihant!
Not because it will counter the threat of Chinese navy (that's not wha it's meant for), but because the development of our own SSBN will be a major step for India to balance the power between both countries. With those SSBNs operational, we are able to answer any attack from China with direct response to Chinese bases and cities in the east, that aren't in range of our missiles yet. Imo a true game changer that is way more important than 100 new fighters, or tanks, because those might be useful in a war, but the threat of these SSBNs can even prevent a war!

India is clearly focusing it's defense on China now and with the big modernisation of the IAF, further developments (new frigats, destroyes, carriers and corvetts for asw) and new procurements (maritime patrole and asw aircrafts + conventional subs) of IN, we are doing very good moves to counter the threats.

A short term war with China might be converted into a full fledge war...... heavily armed soldiers of both sides may take care each other not easily coz both natios spending a huge amount on its military so.... if china goes for a short term war with India a retaliation is very much possible by the Indian army...

Friend are u indian pm or chinees pm? Anyway you 1st question's answer is 'INDIA spending heavely on modernisation of military because most countrys doing it for 'DEFENCE'. Even countrys like AFRICA where most of states people die,in of hunger. Even pakistan by begging money from west. So this question should be asked to those countries. Your 2nd question's answer is 'YES'. What india need to kick china's a**? Army? This aint 1962. We need missiles agni III and agni V (5000KM range. Testing next year), jet fighters, Tanks and yep chemical weapons to melt them. Your 3rd question's answer is 'friend u gotta be joking me. Just 1 nuclear submarine? Right now india has two nuclear submarines. 1 by india and 1 by russia. Total 5 would be ready in short time. We will also have 3 aircraft carrier in which two would be ready by 2012 to 2014. Do u know how many aircraft can this aircraft carrier can carry??? And than india would have our own P-8I 8 of them. Dont forget more fridgets and destroyers. 6 scorpian submarines too under construction. China dont have aircraft carriers and yep not even P-8I. Ur 4th questions answer is 'its because india good neighbour and not china'. Ur 5th question's answer is 'NO'. Our people not joining army due to 'LOW PAY'. Just see when war starts how indians would be eager to join army. India calm country but once war starts its difficult to calm india.

Hey friend by the way you should not compare indian navy vs chinees navy. Chinees navy got adge in submarines because they have them in number. They more ships than india but most of them aint high class like ours. Havent u seen alot chinees ship surrownded american ship. They looked like fishing boats lol. Than america sended its most lethel ship (only one) and guess what there were no chinees boats ooops i mean ship around. China has only some good quality ships. In asia its JAPAN NAVY superior. Than its INDIAN NAVY (both has top quality navy). China comes 3rd. Just have submarines in number doesnt make china number1 in asia lol. Russia has 245 nuclear submarines (more than america). Still they aint number1 navy. China has only 74 submarines. Japan navy the asian super power navy. i seen there navy's ships and weapons. it made me shocked and impressed me. Japan navy the best navy i seen in asia. Their warships so much lethel. Combination of japan navy and indian navy would be 'unmatchable'. America the only one who would bring this two navys together in future.

I rally dont know! The Indians say they should spend to protect themselves from Chinese aggression but most of the weapons systems purchased seem more Pakistan-centric than China-centric. And more importantly why would China want to invade India? China hasnt even used its military might to take Taiwan or in the past Hong-Kong even when it can and could!! In all probability, the answer to your 1st question is: FEAR most probably inculcated!!

If you mean deep within Indian Territory? Then YES The Indian Armed Forces are not babies! They are a well trained and qualified and highly respected military, among the best of the best and if they have to defend their homeland then no one can beat them at that

What do you mean? A threat from Chinese Nuclear Submarines? Look my friend! Nuclear Subs provide strategic and tactical Nuclear capability that is difficult to track, in the end you dont use a hundreds of millions of dollars Nuclear Sub to search and destroy other subs but rather preferably they are used for strategic Nuclear strikes, and with both India and China having long range missiles and ICBMS, this is not that strong an option but Yes it can.
