MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia's armed forces will soon receive a new batch of rocket launchers known as "Solensebiok" or "Poratino", according to the Russian Defense Ministry's information service.

The TOS-1A system, which Russian military personnel call Solensebiok or Poratino, was designed to destroy enemy armor, bomb hostile forces in open spaces or hideouts, and set fires.

Its shells contain combustible and explosive materials that produce a very powerful strike wave that exceeds the power of the normal detonation of explosives.

The strength of the "Sun Blaze" is comparable to that of a small tactical nuclear bomb, but it does not cause radioactive contamination.
The "Sun Blaze" has a range of 6 km and can damage an area of land 40,000-square-meter wide..

*This system is going to be made in KSA according to the recent deal with Russia

. . . .
isnt it too short ranged.
It accompanies the troops on the ground.. it is quite practical if 4 to 6 km are cleared in front of them, It makes it safer to advance.. and then start again to gain more terrain..

I think range is not important in this. We need to research the explosives as this is needed. Readind some where that when Kursk submarine which was at the bottom of the sea due to accident. When American approaches that they found missilies/torpedoes having explosives yields up to nuclear warhead.

It is a tactical range..6km with most tanks having 4 or 5km range is enough to protect troops and armoured vehicles advance.. as for the explosives..read the tile again.. the yield is the same as a small tactical nuclear bomb..less the radiation..

Couldn't this explosive be much more effective with Nasr?
Maybe..but Nasr is a strategic deterrent although it is a tactical weapon too..
TOS-1A is purely tactical..the yield of its warheads is relatively big since it mostly uses the burning power of special explosives and rockets..the range is also 10 times shorter than Nasr TNW....meaning they are two different weapons for two different roles..Nothing beats Tactical Nuclear weapons, to deter and most likely stop an invasion like the cold start doctrine for instance..While TOS-1/A is mostly a modern Ktyusha with modern rockets and high explosives..

I know boss and still feel the same. At best, i can add that may be we should opt for a similar system with slightly extended range but even if it comes in this range it will be important and effective.
