So, that's how things are now.

If somebody haven't noticed, top US officials were touring the world for the three months straight: from Pimpeo, to the their defence secretary, to their top spy. Trump definitely deployed all pawns he had at hand for a full front offensive.

Perfect timing for them. Beijing has been in complete paralysis, foreign office been silent for months.

This will not end well for China. The Beidaihe-goers must sort out their sh!t quickly.

China has a horrendous PR and HR department. It's foreign affairs just repeat the old and tired "win win" argument repeatedly and think that a big wallet can buy friendship.

The reality is that China's international image is horrible and few countries trust it. China is seen as a selfish country with zero ethics and zero moral compass. A large part of this is because of the shitty behavior of it's own citizens in other countries, another part of this is the complete ineptitude of Chinese media in projecting a favorable image of the country or making friends.

But retarded Chinese netizens on this site will just say "Only HARD POWER MATTERS!" And that's why China's image is terrible.

What's even worse is with all the negative things Trump has done to alienate everybody he is STILL seen as more favorable than Xi. That says a lot.

China does have some catchup to do with this regard. You won't win the WASP market, they are in it together, the North Americans, English speaking Western Europeans - on the same page, very similar interests. However even then, people within the EU are willing to toe an independent line, and the rest of the world is defintely somewhere China can expand it's influence.

You have to export your culture, have people to people contacts, and have a more plural world view. The Americans impose their own ways on people, but they do it in a way where it seems like you have a choice, almost like its the right thing to do.

The issue is China has always been inward looking(I can't say that to be good thing or bad, only time will tell). While rest of the world uses one internet(facebook, youtube, twitter etc), China uses its own internet. English is a global language majority of world population understands it to some extent. And this gives the west, especially US an advantage on how to shape narrative and how to get public around the world to support their narrative.

It's a tough task to counter all this, and China can't do it, well atleast for now.

umm..Europe = WASP? That's like calling Pakistan "Arab".

No it's not what I said. I specifically stated the English speaking countries in Western Europe. The UK, Ireland - they'll for better or for worse be in the US camp (i know the republic is catholic). The same is true for Canada, Australia, New Zealand. Countries with WASP origin or heritage. These countries will trade with China and will look after their own interests - but they'll never ditch the US for China.

Yes and this insular attitude goes from the top down. From Chinese leaders to the common person, China does not know how to communicate with or relate to other nations. Thus they are unable to influence public opinion in other countries. They are just seen as a huge selfish country that no one can communicate with and with weird people eating dogs and now bats.

Even the Chinese netizens here are clueless as far as how important image control is. The problem is that Chinese society has very little empathy so they barely even understand the point of view of other Chinese, let alone foreigners.

True. China is seen as it truly is......

It will remain that way until the Chinese Communist Party shares power with an opposition and the Chinese people have a legitimate say in the Chinese government.

Unfortunately many of China's people to people contacts backfire because many Chinese act like pigs with rude manners, greedy and selfish behavior and exuding absolutely no charm or any effort to win friends. Look at what is happening in Cambodia, look at how Chinese tourists are perceived in Europe, look at how Chinese businessmen are seen in Latin America. In no country would people say that Chinese tourists and businessmen are charming and likeable people. Increasing people to people contact would probably backfire in China's case because many of its citizens act like complete douchebags and pieces of shit.

Xi only has charisma in a Chinese frame of reference. To the rest of the world, he has zero personality and has nothing to say that would inspire them or win them over. Instead he's just a distant, serious emperor dogged by US backed rumors of being a genocidal maniac.

Honestly Chinese need to up their game. Especially on countering propaganda and on diplomatic front.

IDK if this account is authentic or not but if it is then its very poor representation:

Never going to happen. China's leaders and people are unfortunately too socially stunted and insular to be able to combat Western propaganda which is globally dominant bar none. Just look at the behavior of the netizens here.

LOL! There's only two countries in Europe that speak English. England and Ireland (which isn't even Protestant).
You just had to write "Western Europe and WASP" instead to completely mislead people.

Not really. The problem is not their system of governance but the quality of the people. This will only change IF, and it is a big IF, China maintains it's growth in prosperity and its people reaches a high level of education and material well being for at least 2 generations. Then perhaps the Chinese people can evolve a level of consciousness that is higher than the bottom levels of Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Currently most Chinese people are still at Level 1 or 2 even if they have already gotten rich.

China's system of governance exists for a reason. It's the only way to manage a country of a billion 5 year olds full of stupid, selfish, greedy, emotionally immature people.

Zero self awareness, zero empathy or awareness of others, zero ability to influence or win others over.

The younger generations are starting to become more aware. They are starting to become more like the Japanese and Koreans with educated, polite and well dressed people. But still long ways to go. The overall image of the Chinese people is not going to dramatically change anytime soon.

Most Europeans speak English as a second language. In addition, Northern European countries like Netherlands, the Scandinavian countries basically speak English at a native level.

English is the second language in many non-European countries too but a second language was not what he was pointing his finger at.

BTW that pyramid correlates to many of SerpentZa's gripes
