I dont know why Paksitanis are so restless and pessimistic about Nawaz Shareef.... it takes many years to build a nation.

A power plant takes many years to build. The demand for power is always variable the production is constant in most cases.

If you produce more electricity that you consume the excess is lost. It only makes more sense to sell the excess power.

For Gas transportation cost is very high if you are not using a pipeline (which has high setup cost)

For pipelines if you are not able to consume all gas that can be transport you are forgoing the opportunity cost.

It does only make more sense for India and Pakistan to share their surplus resources.

Problem with democracy is an ordinary person who does not have ability to understand national issues gets to comments on people who are handling the nation which is pathetic.

Responding to the friendly overtures from Pakistan's new ruling party, a delegation of Indian officials is headed to Lahore on June 9 to offer natural gas supply through a pipeline to help ease the neighbour's energy crisis.

The decision, sources said, was taken at the top level on Monday, two days before Nawaz Sharif was sworn in as prime minister. India will offer to extend its gas pipeline to the Wagah border, after which Pakistan can take it to its users. The gas, amounting to 1.5 million tonnes per annum, would be sourced by India from Qatar and offered without charging a marketing premium.

"This is a test case before we enter into an agreement with Pakistan for the TAPI pipeline," a GAIL official said, referring to the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India pipeline. "This is a small step to win its confidence."

The official said the existing pipeline up to Jalandhar had surplus capacity because of a drop in domestic gas availability and its extension to Amritsar and into Pakistan would ensure better capacity utilisation.

but ill it be cost effective ????????

Seems like our nation has no willing to be progressive, they offered and it will be accepted scenario will suits only to stupids, any way if their gas price is low than IP then i don't think we should show any reluctance, use both sources India & Iran defining time frames of project completion & cost.

We aree not taking any profit... Hope Pakistan will not betray us this time. We have big hope on Miyan sahab.. He will make relation better ...

Dont blame us whenever Both of us the india and pakistan try to Cooperate some events occur like Mumbai attack or LOC issues arise and again all the cooperation is scattered !

It will take years for this project to be real and in the mean time ISI will do everything to stop friendship. This is what's been done. Whenever Mr Nawaz Shareef is on the chair, Pakistan military is more anti Indian.

Criticism from Honourable Indian members has always been welcome. I am not given to vitriolic ripostes and will try to reply to pertinent questions rationally.

Honourable Bang Galore remarked:

“If you think the Indian offer is a dangerous proposition that cannot be accepted, how on earth are you going to justify asking India to take that risk with any pipeline crossing your territory?”

India has withdrawn from IPI pipeline project and question of justifying the risk is therefore not valid.

However, in case of IPI pipeline Iran would have been an affected party as well and if Pakistan closed off Indian supplies, Iran could shut gas supplies to Pakistan too. Nevertheless Indian concerns about Pakistan shutting supplies in case of war were quite genuine.

Honourable Shaggy 82 writes:

“You cannot just bring Gas from anywhere anytime. You need pipeline infrastructure. Its true that India is importing gas from Qatar but Pakistan will not be able to build up that infrastructure that quickly. It may take Pakistan a few years to build that infrastructure till that time Pakistan can use Exported gas from India to meet immediate needs. Also india and increase its utilization. It is nothing but common sense.”

Hon Sir,

Your objections are based upon incorrect assumptions.
Pakistan already has an extensive gas pipeline network across the country which has been in place for a number of years.

Sui Gas Transmission Company was formed as far back as 1954 and changed its name to Sui Southern Gas Company in 1989. The company has been responsible for the transmission of and distribution of gas from Sui field in Baluchistan to Sindh including Karachi.
Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Ltd (SNGPL) was incorporated in 1963 and has been operating & maintaining high pressure gas pipeline for better part of 50 years.

All that is needed is to build LNG receiving facility & degasification plant.
India has offered to extend existing pipeline from Jalandhar up to Wage border. Pakistan will need to extend our own pipeline to network to Wagah. Distance between Lahore & Jalandhar is approx. 120 KM. It will take at least one year to complete thus it does not solve immediate problem.

Sui Southern Gas Company had already asked for tenders for the import of 400-million CFT per day. Lowest bid was by Pakistan Gasport Limited. Understand that as usual Supreme Court has become involved and the matter is currently suspended. As a Pakistani; I am being very logical to conclude that if we must import LNG from Qatar, we should do it ourselves rather than getting it thru a third country..

Nevertheless Indian has made a generous offer and it is very much appreciated.

This is flawed logic. Why would Pakistan want gas imports from India when we can simply get it from Iran and the Central Asian nations?

I KNOW! Right , now only if the leaders in pakistan were elected from among PDF members yeah?- every issue would be solved asap.

Forget that none goes ' wait a minute, if it were just that simple as our brillant PDF members have come with,we would have done it'- duh

Just a couple of quick question for any who can answer it:

How will Qatari gas get to India?

If liquified and transported by ship, why would it need to go to India first?

If transported by pipeline, the pipeline would have to go thru Pakistan into India, wouldn't it?

Gas is transported to India through ships. There is pipeline network in India but not being utilized completely. Plan is to extend it to Amritsar, and than into Pakistan if needed.

Indians are natural trolls. They will shut off supply whenever their media makes some bs story up.

Ganja is such a dumb@$$.
