Three Militants Killed in Encounter With Army in J&K

Three militants were today killed as army troops foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in poll-bound Kupwara district of north Kashmir, a defence spokesman said.


Army troops guarding the LoC noticed a group of militants attempting to infiltrate from across the border in Nowgam sector of Handwara early today, the spokesman said.


The militants opened heavy fire when challenged by the troops, triggering a gunbattle, he said.

Three unidentified militants were killed in the encounter, the spokesman said, adding further details are awaited as the operation was still going on.

The infiltration attempt coincided with the second-phase of polling in Jammu and Kashmir wherein a total of 18 Assembly seats, including five in Kupwara district, went to polls today.

Last week, four militants were killed when an encounter broke out between the ultras and security forces in Arnia sector of Jammu region close to Indo-Pak border on November 27.

During the terror attack, in all 12 people were killed including five civilians and three army personnel.

Indeed, In the recent Ariana contact it was the locals who alerted the IA to the presence of infiltrators from Pakistan and this is how many contacts with the enemy begin. And then some Pakistani members have the audacity to claim the Kashmiris are on their side.

In the backdrop of record turnouts at state elections in J&K along with an every dwindling number of deaths in Indian Kashmir year on year, I don't see how India's claim on Kashmir is getting anything but stronger and more legitimate. With the economic prosperity the state will see under a new state government this hold will only be solidified once and for all.

As per as my information is concerned it is local Inputs that help them trace the militants. Even when it was 90's that time also there were many people willing to pass on the information even when they knew that they might have to pay the price for it. As of today, the infiltration level is very low and no matter what people think, this will be dead case soon. Only few people like Yasin Malick are intimidating locals and suppressing their voice. They are trying to make decisions on behalf of others and sometimes people are forced to join even if they do not want to. My point being the support for militancy is less than what people think it is. Kahsmiri's want to live peaceful life. If BJP win's in valley that will prove what I am saying.
