Christian Attacks on the Rise in India

As in dozens of other countries around the world, Christians are increasingly becoming the targets of physical violence and persecution in India.

Some of the latest reports indicate that on Saturday, May 26, 2012, 10 Hindu militants disrupted a Christian prayer meeting that was taking place in the city of Karnataka. The Hindus ordered the Christians to stop the prayer meeting and proceeded to attack the pastor, beating him up and verbally assaulting him while accusing him of attempting to convert Hindus to Christianity. The pastor was ultimately taken to the local police station, where authorities began an investigation of the case.

A similar incident occurred several weeks earlier in March 3, 2012, after a group of more than 20 Hindu radicals broke up a prayer meeting and forced the two women leading the meeting to stop evangelizing. The women were brought before the authorities on charges of “forceful conversion” and were pressured to end their Christian activities of assembling prayer meetings and evangelization.

On February 21, 2012, Christian converts reported an attack by Hindu militants, who had forcibly entered the house of a convert from Hinduism because the man had invited a Christian pastor and his family for dinner.
