Awami League general secretary and road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said Bangladesh’s relations with India are of friendship, not of slavery, reports BSS.
“We don’t forget our national interest in keeping relations with India. India was a genuine friend in our liberation war,” he said while handing over the party’s membership forms and copies of the party constitution to the AL leaders of Kurigram and Cumilla districts at the Awami League president’s Dhanmondi political office here.

Quader said Indian prime minister Narendra Modi will join the celebration of Mujib Year as a representative of India.
Those who are opposing Modi’s visit to Dhaka have been behaving with India like slaves, he said.
The AL general secretary said when BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia was the prime minister, she visited India but forgot to discuss the water issue during her visit.
BNP leaders are now behaving like slaves to satisfy the Indian leaders.
But, he said, the BNP leaders are now behaving like slaves to satisfy the Indian leaders.
He added that those who oppose Modi’s visit are opposing the Mujib Borsho.
Directing the AL grassroots leaders not to take the terrorists, communalists and anti-liberation elements as party members, he said, “Be careful too so that extortionists, land grabbers, drug traders and addicts cannot be members of the AL”.
AL presidium members Matia Chowdhury and Jahangir Kabir Nanak, its organising secretary Mirza Azam, relief and social welfare secretary Sujit Nandi Roy, office secretary Biplab Barua, science and technology affairs secretary Abdus Sabur and deputy office secretary Sayem Khan were, among others, present.

Awami League general secretary and Bridges minister Obaidul Quader said that India is the main ally in the liberation war of Bangladesh. Therefore, without India Mujib Borsho is not complete. We have invited Narendra Modi as India's representative. He will represent India. Without India Mujib Borsho will not get completeness.
He said this in reply to questions of journalists after transferring of the party's manifesto and constitution book in the political office of the party president in Dhanmondi on Wednesday (March 4).
Speaking about those opposing the visit of Narendra Modi, Qader said India must be represented in the Mujib Borsho. In fact, those who oppose the coming of Narendra Modi today are opposed to the Mujib Borsho.
Awami League general secretary said, "Bangabandhu is now the undisputed political leader of Bangladesh manifested in its glory at home and abroad, it is clear.
He posed the question who is opposing the visit of Narendra Modi? They are the ones who went to India and forgot to talk about Ganges water. When she was questioned in Dhaka about the Ganges Water Treaty in India then Prime Minister Khaleda Zia said that I had forgotten this. We do not forget about our interests. We have not forgotten our interests in making friends with India.
He added that the people of our country are the source of our power. India is our sad friend. India is our development partner. This is our friendship with India. They (BNP) are also ready to be enslaved for power. The big proof of this, when Narendra Modi was elected, the BNP's representatives went to India with floral wreaths and sweets before opening the Indian Embassy office in Dhaka. Now are they not ashamed to oppose Narendra Modi?
Regarding the formation of Awami League committees in the grass root level we have said that terrorists, extortionists, land grabbers, drug dealers, drug addicts, anti-liberation forces cannot be members of the Awami League. The communal force will not be a member of the Awami League. In this context, we have sent circulars to every organizational district.
Awami League presidium members Matia Chowdhury MP, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, office secretary Biplob Barua, deputy office secretary Abu Sayem Khan were present.
