What's new

This is not the nineties !

But the original demand from PAF was of 36 f-16s which was cut half bcoz of earth quake in 2005 due to financial restraints.. One would have assumed tht PAF would have liked to meet its original requirement of 36 and hence requested for atleast 18 more.... But 8 is just too less

Shayed yeh muft mai mil rahe hain :D

@Windjammer Jammi Bhai this is not 90's and paf can procure any plane from other source-- great but paf had other options at 90's from the european manufacturer at that time. Never heard that french was withholding anything other than chinese or even Russian, was russia been asked for any offer at that time.

@MastanKhan mastan bhai you quote block 3 of jf17 in the league of f-16, did the block 3 design frozen, and all equipments sorted out by paf with caltic and kamra that makes you believe. And what are the configurations.

@waz waz bhai f16v would be the great fighter plane. But what is the reason do you think US is not supplying AESA to pakistan do you think for the MLU and 18+8 new f16 fighter plane.

If the reason is India, how could it be possible when Pakistan is the close ally of US in the war of terror in afghanistan and the long friendship during soviet afghan war. US has never stopped giving weapons to pakistan except some period of restriction, but now everything is normal.

As for the thread, thanks for the details @Windjammer . Although I was hoping the PAF would go for the V version of the F/16.
@waz , I did read somewhere that the Eight jets ordered are Block-61 or the ''V'' version, hence i posed the question to my source, the reply was ''what's the logic in acquiring just eight aircraft of different category, then you will need extra support systems for these jets which will work out to be an expensive venture....however the silver lining is that in near future, it's more feasible to upgrade 26 aircraft to the next standard.

??

Thanks for the post. The question is that is the PAF looking to procure the Blk61 F16 in the current future or what----. If it does---then the possibility of the SU35 fades away.
Pakistan will be still in need for deep maritime strike fighter ..with decent payload , which can go with good range with number of ASHM either with fuel tanks or without them

As I read somewhere that Russian Tech is not reliable in definition of support supplies and issues with intact of Chinese missiles that I think we have large inventory so don't we have other options like J -11D or J-10B or C if I m not wrong, for deep sea operation and mid to high tier? Any expert opinion

Thanks for that. I hope to see some serious upgrades to the fleet.

F16 are great additions.

BUT the threat of sanctions at any given moment is a CLOUD over your heads that will never go away

in 1999 AT THE HEIGHT of KARGIL war when indian Mirage2000 & Jaguar fighters where bombing NLI the ACM of PAF confirmed to Mushraff that if the Indians crossed THE LOC and escalated the war PAF had only

13 operational F16 out of 32 PLANES.

and they could not stand up to MIG29 MIRAGE2000

so rejoice and demand USA fighters but you will never be guaranteed the spares and maintenance that other nations like
Japan
Israel
South Korea
Taiwan
Nato

countries enjoy

F16 is PAF TRUMP CARD and ACHILLIES HEEL rolled into one AND THE INDIANS KNOW THIS

''Gentlemen, this is not the era of nineties, if you don't sell to us, we have several other options available to us now, who are ready and willing to supply us with our requirements''......the very words PAF Chief conveyed to the Americans during his recent visit to Washington and Pentagon. The visiting PAF delegation further stressed that at ''one point the PAF solely relied on US equipment which no doubt it found very reliable and efficient specially a platform like the F-16, which the PAF has expert iced on for over 30 years, however if hindrance and hurdles still prevail then PAF wouldn't and doesn't need to sit and wait in hope of clearance as PAF has evaluated or is in process of evaluating several platforms in both East and West''.... The statement of offer by the Russian minister is very much relevant in the Pentagon corridors. The news of China sending a J-31 to Pakistan is just not feasible for a brand new single platform to be transported with all the support systems, however a few PAF pilots evaluating the J-31 in China can't be ruled out. It's also worth mentioning that the eight F-16s ordered are standard Block-52s with some extra PAF specific gadgets.

Pakistan does not have the $$$ to purchase 40 Su-35 from Russia. In the uber run USA has to resign themself to Pakistan being in the Chinese camp.

Why cant we just reverse engineer and make our own version of the F-16...?
Ooh! Post of the day :enjoy:

Read the interview of Project Director JF17 which was given on paris air show.

Pakistan Airforce wants US response about future sales. Because we need some brand new Block-52 F-16s for supplementing the existing fleet. Moreover, the continuous supply of spares is also an issue. US cannot simply affect Pakistan by suspending supplies in case of any conflict. Our few dozen Block-52s need some guarantee. Russian offer is surely a robust factor in diplomatic relations with Americans. 50 brand new Block-52s in next few years or Pakistan will surely induct a Russian platform as its backbone!

SU 35 is better than Anything uncle SAM can offer.BTW good approach by our AF chief.
We went to US and opted for 8 F-16, the small number may be due to requirement, finance,, anything. The thing is we were able to go there and ask for just 8 planes and still do not look stupid because we are going to add these numbers to our existing 36 Blk 52 or appx 70 F-16s in general so that makes sense. However, can w go to Russia and buy just 8 Su-35 as per our budget or requirement? will that be wise setting up a whole new setup for maintenance, training facility buy weaponry and all stuff for this limited number? even for 36 odd planes? Remember that these will be from Russia coming into a force will all experience of western aircraft, this will literally be a difference of east and west.

All i want to say is that THIS is the option that US and specifically F-16 give to a cash starved PAF and no one else can do this,, the option to buy small number as you have 30 years of experience and infrastructure for maintenance, training facilities and all AND ALL THIS IS FOR F-16 Block 52 which still is a mean machine. Su-35 or J10 wont give that option. Once we chose them we will have to go all out, buy in numbers decent enough, invest in weapon systems, training and maintenance facilities and all that will have negative effect on projects that PAF seem to be giving priority quite clearly.
