Simple. The Zardari government has set new records in corruption and on top of that has made no attempt to manage the economy. What little effort that has been made is marked by incompetance managed by inept people. now that we have 'Rental Rajah' in PM slot things are not going to get any beter.

The governments favourite line is 'democracy is best form of revenge' which translates into 'government of the people for the revenge on the people'.

Musharaf was a dictator and indeed there was corruption then as well but he did have some very able technocrats managing the economy. At one stage I think the economy was growing at almost 7% under him.

I give you some taste of what is happening. Despite year on year increase in demand for electricity production is now well below installed capacity because bills have not been settled with suppliers who have reduced generation. Government's answer? Under then then power minister 'Rental Raja'. Contract foreign or local rental production units which would be either oil or gas fired.

These mobile units, some in form of ships were contracted amidst massive kickbacks with large chunks going to 'Rental Rajah'. The price per unit was astronomical. Result bills went up and power production hardly increased because more of the established plants were shut down to make space for the rented units. now industry is facing loadshedding. Factories have reduced or shut down because of power shortgages.

While all this goes on the governments copngratulates itself on nearly completing 5 year term and is busy plundering as much money as possible. I am even surprised the the growth is 2%?

Surviving and developing are two different things. Even Zimbabwe, Ethiopia are surviving nation...

No one is questioning your will to survive and fight to get out of this situation, its about beyond it.

If Pakistan has to get the best out of its strategic location and resources, its the time otherwise delay may lead it to a completely different path.
