And there are certain garments that need to be hand-washed.

We do, it's necessary, as I said earlier different garments require different ways to clean them.

Hand use detergent is for hand, machine detergent is for machine. I don't think you need to mix them.

Sometimes I just use powder if there is only one pair of socks.
I think it's imperative to save some tap water for motherland though it's not expensive at all.
