That's true, the US abused their extradition treaty with Canada (not in good faith), and then Donald Trump slapped Canada down when they tried to claim it was purely an issue of law and order. By saying that the arrest of Meng was a "bargaining chip" in the trade war negotiations.

However at the same time China doesn't have a choice either. You can't just kidnap business executives for trade benefits. Canada is going to learn the hard way about the pitfalls of handing over their sovereignty to the USA.

The better choice would have been to do this tit for tat to US citizens directly.
It would have sent a clear message.

Extradition law are never unconditional. It first require the accused crime to be an offense in Canadian law as well, and Canada had turned down US expedition requests before for much less. Furthermore, even after the court hearing, it is entirely to the discretionary of the executive office to decide whether to proceed with the extradition. So the Canadian government can't hide behind the extradition treaty and plead non-culpability.

No, Canada lose more than China.

You know, there are a lot of Chinese who migrated to Canada. They aim for Canada citizenship, but never actually live and work there. So, basically they work in China and want to have Canada Citizenship for something. Maybe for safety and luxurious western lifestyle that they can't get from China. Or maybe if CCP is running amok, they can save their *** by hiding in Canada.

But with the imprisoned of Meng, this situation make those people nervous. Because like it or not, they work in China, and they can have the same fate as Meng, if something nasty to happen. So with this kind of situation, will Rich Chinese dare to come to Canada? No. They will hide their *** in China instead. Because like Sabrina Meng, they can be targeted by USA because of the Trade War.

Not necessarily shooting my own foot. Yes, they bring their expertise. But that's it. As these experts are replace-able as long as they are not tech experts. But even tech-experts, they are not as good as the US Techs or the European ones. Even good enough, but won't be a majority in China. They won't be the expert that China can't help but to have them.

China doesn't even import Canadian tech. They simply import raw material and oil, paper, wood.

Yet funnily enough it was not China that kidnapped a business executive for the purpose of trade negotiations. That precedent was set by both the US and Canada.

They have basically said it is now OK to kidnap foreign nationals as a bargaining chip during trade negotiations.

you know they didn't kidnap her... so no need to invent fantasy, she was arrested and she 's been bailed out, waiting for extradition.
So yeah... Because X or Y daughter of X or Y powerful guy get arrested for X charges doesn't give you the right to arrest ppl who have nothing to do in this affair...just for the sake of being "funny"...
And if those few Canadians getting arrested in CN are true criminals then why now?

And we both know that If by any means she's being judged, it will take years and years and mostly end up with a fine... So all this fuss for nothing...just because she's the daughter of X...
