The West may be too late to stop Beijing in S. China Sea

.
You made it sound like a weekly prime time popular TV show to entertain the public..

no.

it is in fact a persistent public awareness campaign from the point of the TV industry,
enabling a popular movement not unlike other major popular movements that ultimately, after decades of patient, persistent and peaceful activity, resulted in a large cultural shift in the US. Like ending racial segregation, like ending the witch hunting of pot smokers, like gender equality and equal pay (still in progress), like LGBT rights, the list probably goes on a bit longer.

the US is not incapable of changing itself.
the same goes for any other NATO country, or any other country anywhere in fact.

the trick is to use that decades long struggle of changes in public opinion gradually building up into changes of law and government policies.
any attempt to use violence, and you get further away from your goal.

Good point, please tell US stop waging wars around the world, beside, Nato is all about US, without US, Nato is nothing, so in China we never talk about Nato, only US and our goal is clear for everyone to see, beating US in everything in the not far away future.

beating the US in everything is very childish thinking, ok..

and i'll tell the US to stop waging *useless* wars around the world. the not-useless wars, prevent us from being exploited by the likes of you.

US only enjoys bullying small weak defenceless nations , but actually it's good for us to see that country is wasting itself away and we can continuously milk it as our cow.

well i advocated, according to the same principles of war that have me agreeing to China building bases in the South China Sea, that the Russians could have their Crimean naval base back. Makes sense eh, considering that sea the Crimea is the coastline for, has a link in Turkey to the Mediterranean Sea which is NATO territory.

i also advocated the Russians could have reliable land supply routes to the Crimea.

'what the west can do' is not just win in war, it's also letting others feel secure in their own countries.

somehow i doubt people like you would show restraint in military expansion. maybe that's because you're new to it.
Oh China has been “showing restraint” all the time.. but only to the relevant parties
https://thediplomat.com/2017/11/a-south-china-sea-code-of-conduct-is-real-progress-possible/

so far I consider it successful - we have been pushing the framework of COC with steady progress, soothing the countries in the region while keep building those islands - nothing to complain. but somehow you are suggesting we should cater to the opinions and feelings of the western audiences as well, which is beyond preposterous.

Why would the average Europeans care about SCS anyway:rolleyes:

.
being perceived internationally as a peaceful strong nation rather than a sneaky and/or manipulative and/or lying and/or aggressive nation.

Do you mean like the USA, which just put into effect sanctions on EU trade today?

.
large cultural changes take time.
you know this in your own country. it took decades for Beijing to take environmental policies seriously, now you're building forests the size of France.

and there is, once again thanks to our free speech and free press and free politics, a large movement active in the US to change the gunlaws. it's on several major US TV networks too, like CNN-US, whenever another school shooting occurs.

"I'll give you my gun when you pry (or take) it from my cold, dead hands.

According to the article you posted the link for, the COC is a delaying tactic used by Beijing.

China’s economic might is a fact every country in Southeast has to come to terms with. There are huge economic benefits to be reaped from the Belt and Road and ASEAN countries cannot risk being left out. Beijing knows this well and is a master of pitting ASEAN countries against one another. Singapore was the only ASEAN state to openly call for China to respect the tribunal ruling, and this was faced with strong backlash from China.

China is in a position to use its economic prowess to pressure for provisions beneficial to Beijing, as well as divide ASEAN on key issues such as whether the COC should be legally binding. Ultimately, it is likely that the final COC would be based off a lowest common denominator, meaning it is unlikely to make any real progress in halting Chinese advancements in the South China Sea.

Why would the average Europeans care about SCS anyway:rolleyes:

Well, you should, as a nation, take the opinions in other regions in the world into account.
After all, any build-up of tensions between superpowers is going to drag the entire world into deepened conflict.

i recommend China not get "nervous" about activities like

Trade-wars are easier to end than arms-races.

You watch the Fake News Network aka CNN ?

More than 3-in-4 of 803 American respondents, or 77 percent, said they believe that major traditional television and newspaper media outlets report “fake news,” according to a Monmouth University poll released Monday, marking a sharp increase in distrust of those news organizations from a year ago, when 63 percent registered concerns about the spread of misinformation.

803 participants in a survey on a country with 325 million inhabitants, lol :)
that means you can't trust the results at all, especially not that jump from 63 percent to 77 percent :)

I don't think you have any clue about news business in America. A guy in a foreign land is lecturing an American about news in America !
Lay off the weed buddy, it is killing your remaining brain cells.
