You cannot charge the same price for a product which you export to say Greenland from Pakistan in Pakistan. I asked which one of our industry imports it raw material and sells produce locally? Pakistan is an agricultural country with vast lands. We even produce our own edible oils.

There exists that institute or organisation called Competition Commission of Pakistan

Let me explain this way: you produce oranges, I am an exporter in Pakistan that is willing to pay you $10 per kg, you will therefore sell to me or locally for the same price equivalent in rupees. This is why exchange rates can affect inflation.

Believe it or not - we import even cotton and oil. In fact, cooking oil is one of our largest imports We also import dairy products line cheese despite being one of the top 5 dairy milk producers in the world. We also import animal feeds, medications for animals, animals and fingerlings (to grow and breed in farms), ingredients (??) for fertilisers, etc etc and all of this is ONLY because of the continued failures of current and previous governments.

All of these problems by the way can quite easily be resolved, if the government takes them seriously and acts.

Local fertiliser should be enough bai ......... this country suffered at the hands of terrorism and lots of explosives were recovered from terrorists. If terrorists can procure it locally then farmers should face no problem.

However, I do agree with introducing new modern farming techniques

Nope. Even for locally produced fertiliser the key ingredients come from places like China. I know this because I personally know a major fertiliser producer in Pakistan, and all they do is mix some local + Chinese ingredients at their large factory in Gadani/hub and sell all over Pakistan.

All of these problems by the way can quite easily be resolved, if the government takes them seriously and acts.

And this is what I was trying to say. The import bill can go down if government is serious and takes some steps to control it. The majority voters in Pakistan won't be affected by that. It will help improve local industry plus employment.

What do you expect when people sitting in consecutive governments remained worried about their own cut of budget. I remember the good old ptv used to air programs on farming and equipment repairs .... but then stupid talk shows started.

I believe there was a guy on this fourm that said his Japanese friend told him that "if we had this much land for agriculture, then we would be able to feed the world" it's a shame really.
We misuse water, waste food and then cry abt being poor.

I think this is right way but will take years before we see any improvement.

1. Make investing in real state sector difficult with black money.
2. That will decrease prices and in return make all those rich looking for easy money invest in industry.
3. To support them let market decide exchange rate instead of spending billions $ to import cheaper.

If the Hindus of India have ignored the fact that the BJP-Modi government failed in achieving its economic goals and have left India in serious economic problems after 5 years, out of desire to preserve their Hindu religion & customs and crush Islam with their 56-inch chest strong man, voted for Modi again with an overwhelming majority, I don't understand why Muslims in Pakistan can't tolerate inflation, less than 1 year, by a government with an honest Prime Minister, who, in exchange, is trying to rid the country of its corruption and all sorts of evils.

It is not up to the government to subsidize common food items so that prices can go down. If things are expensive due to rising rupee, restriction on imports, then it is up to the private sector - farmers and industrialists to increase their productivity. Try growing more crops, improving seed quality and yield, learn better irrigation techniques, incorporate technology. The same thing goes for our industrialists and manufacturers, they can try using better financial management, marketing, technology to improve their productivity and sales. You can't expect the government to spoon feed these people and hold their hands to adopt new technology & techniques. Humans must adapt to survive.

Both these farmers and industrialists were begging the government to subsidize their products-which the government was about to do to a certain extent until, fortunately, we had the change in ministries with more aggressive taxation across the board.
