The U.S. Presidential Race: Hillary and India

Vajpayee
Modi
P V Narasimha Rao Congress
Morarji Desai
Lalbahadhur Shastri Congress

You are more like the US than I have ever thought. A pingpong match between two parties.

True that to some extent...In both it is possible for a non-legacy candidate to win but it has been easier for legacy kids.
What does amazes me is that India has been able to throw out the all powerful Mrs. Indra Gandhi almost at the peak of her power. Not all that illiterate the masses.

I get Hitler's vibe from Ted Cruz, his energy reminds me of Adolf Hitler.

But his point still stands, and you have only buttressed it.

There are no dynastic leaders among top BJP leadership, and given that it is a cadre driven party, there would never be one.

Even among Congress ,which is familial property of Gandhi's/Nehru's, there have been independent non-Gandhi Prime ministers ; two of whom you have have highlighted here.

In USA, while none of the two parties are property of a single family, dynasties have very strong root in both parties.

On the scale of "Affinity to Dynasty" , it would be

Indian National Congress >>> Democratic Party > Republican Party >>>>> BJP(0)

And you are right about ping-pong match, but not entirely. In India Ping-Pong match is between two coalitions NDA (lead by BJP) vs UPA (led by Congress). This time BJP has got full majority on its own, but is still ruling with its partners as it is not sure whether it would again get majority on its own or not, in next election.
