According to information of the “Hellenic Defence & Technology” magazine, the U.S. authorities approved to grant 400 M1A1 Abrams tanks to the Greek Army, which will include options between simple refurbishment – worth tens of millions dollars for all the tanks- and upgrading to a higher level of operational capability, with a higher corresponding cost. The relative Letter of Offer and Acceptance (LOA) is expected soon.

Also according to exclusive information of the 'Hellenic Defence & Technology' magazine, a Price and Availability letter was sent to U.S. authorities regarding 20 AAV7A1 and a low cost upgrade program for them. This is the first step to cover an operational requirement for 75-100 vehicles.

Additional exclusive details on these requirements as well as for Bradley IFVs, in a forthcoming issue of the 'Hellenic Defence & Technology' magazine.

Procurement of SPICE and tank ammunition

According to all indications in today’s meeting KYSEA (Government Council for Foreign Affairs and Defense) formally approved the two procurement programs concerning Israeli SPICE Precision Weapon Guidance Kit for the HAF and 120mm cartridges for tanks from Dutch stocks. This meeting was held following the approval for these programs from the Commission of Armament Programs and Contracts of the Parliament two weeks ago.

Although the formal announcement is still pending, it is likely that the procurement of the following systems was approved:

- SPICE 1000: 300 kits for Mk83 (1000 pounds) bombs

- SPICE 2000: 100 kits for Mk84 (2000 pounds) bombs, with a total cost of 100-120 million Euros. It is believed that in both cases these kits will be used with bombs already existing in the Greek arsenal.

- 5000 (5300 according to other information) cartridges DM53A1 APFSDS-T (Armor Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot – Tracer) – built from Rheinmetall – from Dutch surpluses

- 4,500 training cartridges M865 TPCSDS-T (Target Practice, Cone Stabilized, Discarding Sabot – Tracer) American-made by ATK also from Dutch surpluses. The total cost of ammunition is 24 million Euros.

Greece and Russia rally behind Cyprus

GREECE AND Russia rallied behind Cyprus yesterday in the island’s rights to explore for hydrocarbons in its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and to condemn Turkish threats as the Cyprus Republic turned 51.

Greek Minister of National Defence Panos Beglitis, who attended yesterday’s parade, told reporters: “We are in close cooperation with Cyprus’ leadership, we are watching Turkey’s actions very closely, in a composed and decisive manner and I would like once again to denounce statements often made by the Turkish political leadership, as well as the policies followed.”

Russian Ambassador to Cyprus Vyacheslav Shumskiy said Moscow’s position was “absolutely clear” on the issue. “We were among the first countries to comment on that, and we totally support the sovereign right of the Cypriot people for exploitation of natural resources , this is totally in accordance with the international law and with the EU regulations, so there is no doubt about that,” he said.

Is not Greece bankrupt? They can not afford to buy insulin for 3 year old diabetic girls and they want to get 400 more tanks? Are they sane?

a country without an army is soon to be someone else's country ! history teaches us that, where have you been the last few thousand years?

Dont worry if Greece goes to war with turkey, hollywood will make a film to make the greeks seem like the greatest warrios of all time and that they are so great.
just like they did in 300, i mean Persian killed their 30,000 troops which they called 300 and burned their athens but did you see that in the film?

They were hiding in a small path, if they such a great warrior why not come out and fight in the open? the persian immortals were designed to fight in the open.
Why dont they show that we burned their city in the movie?
