North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and South Korean President Moon Jay have confirmed their commitment to the denuclearization of the peninsula following a historic summit on Friday.

"South Korea and North Korea affirm their common goal of the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula through complete disarmament of these weapons," the two leaders said in a joint statement.

"There is no reason why we should fight each other," said the North Korean leader. "We are one nation."

He expressed his readiness to dismantle the nuclear program of his country in full.

"It took us a long time for the two Koreas to come together and hold on to each other," Kim said at the summit. We waited a long time for this moment to happen. "

"As I stand here today, I can see that the South and North Koreas are the same people, the same blood and can not be separated."

"We will announce the end of the Korean War this year and we will change the ceasefire agreement to a peace agreement," the statement said.

The declaration included commitments to arms control, a cessation of "hostilities", the transformation of the fortified border between the two countries into a "peace zone" and the pursuit of multilateral talks with other countries such as the United States.

Kim became the first North Korean leader to set foot in the south since the 1950-53 Korean War after Moon shook hands with Kim Jong-un over a short concrete barrier that delineates the border between the two countries in the village of Panmunjom, known as the truce village.

South Korean President Moon Jae announced his intention to visit Pyongyang's North Korean capital next autumn.

Excellent news! Here's hoping that it turns into a reality.

To be fair the war was over ages ago.

They are the same people, families split between a border where the culture and history is the same.
Exactly.

Pakistanis and Indians are not the same people.

Pakistanis and Indians have nothing in common.

. .
This is a great news. Let us hope that they move ahead As per the declaration.

I think if the Koreans can do it then so can India and Pakistan.

India and Pakistan have so much in common. Religious differences cannot be a barrier for peace for long.

New generations will bring in peace as they don’t care about religious differences.

Actually there is more differences than similarities between Pakistanis and Indians.

Haryana /UP/ Rajasthan /Bihar have very similar mindsets to Conservative Pakistani folk- for eg, their views on women.

I have predicted this more than a year ago that North Korea will be sorted in 2018.

And I also somehow feel this Kim Jong will be assassinated, by somebody from with in his own circle of people. He probably knows this, that's reason this sudden change of course from his continuous rhetoric.

We will miss the entertainment of the only sane person in this insane world !!
