Engine size of an mbt matters a lot. As a compact engine frees up space for other compnents.
While a engine which is big in size does the opposite from the above.
The pic taken is from the HIT display area. In the pic we can see the small and compact Ukrainian engine 6td2 on the right which powers the alkhalid. While on the left we can see the much larger British perkins engine. Both produce the same power ie 1200 hp.

The Ukrainian engine beats perkins . It's a six cylinder engine while perkins is 12 cylinder n they produce the same horse power. Plus the Ukrainian engine runs on both petrol n diesel while perkins only runs on diesel .

On the left what you can see is a full engine, on the right is 6TD2 without cooling system.

Putting colling system together, 6TD2 isn't that small.

But 6TD2 is still a good engine. Just not as small as you thought.

6-TD series is two stroke engine but other main-stream engines are 4 stroke
2 stroke engine's structure is more simple and compact but lower efficiency
