The most powerful military nations 2015

Not at the moment. Without really going into it, things got really bad, so I had to drop my classes. I will be going back eventually. Just not sure if that's now the direction I will head in. Time will tell.

Just hang in there, Brother. God willing everything will work out in the end just don't give up.

I was interested to read that Pakistanis have graduated from Egyptian military academies !

Most recent example I know of was in 2013 (time flies I thought I saw this last year).

Graduation from Nasser Military Academy (for senior officers only):-

Troop 32 High Military Academy Course
Troop 42 National Defence Course
Troop 23 Strategic African Course (African Students)
Troop 24 High Command Course
Troop 14 Formation Leadership
Troop 20 Distinguished Officers Preparation (fast track for distinguished junior officers)

The courses included students from 16 nations, in particular order:- Saudi Arabia, Oman, Jordan, Qatar, Libya, Sudan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Kenya, Pakistan, Sierra Leonne, Uganda, Zambia, Burendei, Ethiopia, and Nigeria

I knew that Pakistani Officers and Cadets go to foreign countries for this but I didn't know that they went to some of the Middle Eastern countries too; perhaps its for better inter-state relations ! :)

And dude you ought to learn how to quote so that the person you're quoting gets an intimation that you've quoted him ! :)

There's always different and better ways of doing things, there are things that you may have not even considered and others have, they may have not considered something or you show them a better way of doing something, either way in the end joint exercises and training are a great way to boost interoprability, understanding, and capabilities, the more experience you can gather globally the better. :)

That said; I still think that we could kick your Egyptian butt so hard that even the mummy of Ramesses would wake up and say 'who did that' !

But then he will find a calming and soothing yet strong voice telling him to go back to sleep because Egypt is safe Egypt is stronk! Egypt is the Mother of the World! and that he and only he will push back the tide of slightly more brownish people who somehow speak better Arabic fushah than us! That man, man of men, men of man, menman, is the big great lion of Egypt Colonel General Field Marshal President Elsisi the Stronkest!!!!!:sniper::guns:

:pakistan::pakistan:

Both Turkey and Pakistan have close military ties. Does Pakistan have its officers training in Turkey or vice-versa?

.
This list is useless, I don't know why people speak of it!

Since when did the US navy get overtaken by China?

The Indonesian navy (who field all outdated equipment and ships) is 3x as strong as Australia's???

NK is the premier submarine fleet in the world??

In fact according to the report NK has the MOST powerful navy in the world, 2x as strong as the US's.

Saudi Arabia below Vietnam and Thailand?

ETC ETC

.
Australia is an obsolete military. Their size is too small to make a difference. They simply don't matter and should not be in the list.

Being an economic power and a military power are two different things. Netherlands is a first world country but given its very small military North Korea can easily defeat them. Luxembourg is a first world country, its per capita income counts as one of the highest, if not the highest, in the world. Their military is non-existent.

Australia's military is actually very modern (Hence our high defense budget of 26bn US dollars per year), but small.

We have very little in terms of land forces, most of our money goes to the Navy and Airforce who would be the the premier forces of their kind in the region.
Australia is basically a small US military: all its equipment and doctrines are inter-operable with the US.

With 8 modern frigates, 4 destroyers and 6 submarines, 2 LHDs (all with the latest tech) we compare well to most navies.
Our Airforce consists of about 100 modern fighters, but considering no one can reach us even that is overkill.

Also comparing 2 countries is fraught with danger. NK can't reach the NL, in fact it could only attack its neighbors. It's the same with Indonesia: all these big land armies are useless without the logistical ability to transport them and operate them in a long-term conflict away from home.

@SvenSvensonov @xenon54 - With all this talk of caves you guys remind me of the Dwarfs from Lord of the Rings !

We Pakistanis are like the Rohirm - We fight on the backs of our Horses and fear no Darkness ! :smokin:

Albeit every King of ours is a bigger buffoon than the one before him so we've not realized our potential yet ! :ashamed:

Don't get me started on this. I'm a die hard Tolkien fan. :enjoy:

So,the Brits are above us ? :mad::mad:

Of course we are.

What is the size of Australian military? UK military itself is quite small but Aussie military is even smaller. They maybe well equipped in army, but their navy and air force is not much to write about.

Australia is secure no doubt. Their geographical mass, location and the fact they are under UK protection means no country can invade them. Many air forces would run out of fuel before their planes reach Australia.

But I repeat Aussies are not a military power. Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, South Korea, North Korea are the more powerful militaries in the Pacific not to forget Japan. Even Taiwan has a more serious force.

not sure about the 'manpower fit for service' .. china 618 million ? :what:

Yes this is another good point. The Global Firepower report seems to think that all men are fit for service.
I would say only men aged between 18 and 40 would be optimal, after that fewer and fewer men would reach levels of fitness needed for military service.

Still population and military size don't necessarily correlate into power. The trend in military doctrines is for a smaller, more advanced service. Even China and Russia are slowly downsizing their military force. In the future this trend will only continue, each new version of equipment needs fewer and fewer men. EG the latest US aircraft carrier need like 1000 or 2000 men less than its predecessor.

We may soon have autonomous robot armies with no men in them.

I think we have 50-60,000 in active service. The UK has 191,000. But our equipment, training standards etc would be comparable.

It's the other way around, our army is not very well equipped (we have maybe a division or 2 in total; only 50 tanks etc) but our Airforce and Navy are advanced and modern.

No airforce can reach us aside from Indonesia's and only they can reach the top-end of Australia. We have air and naval superiority over Indonesia.

Our main alliance these days is with the US. Our entire military strategy is to hold off an attacker until the US and Europe come to help, however analysts have noted that no navy aside from the US has the ability to force its way through our waters. We are an isolated country surrounded by water, this helps.

I think we compare well with all those countries you listed, with only SK being superior militarily speaking. Singapore is advanced, but even smaller than us (by about a factor 3 or 4 times in terms of population, military spending /size ) and economy.
Malaysia is still poor and not well equipped. Taiwan has no navy and an old Airforce.

But overall you're right, Australia only a middle power, we have no interests in fighting a major war and we don't need to. No one can reach us, or has the ability to protect power into Australia's region. In time Indonesia may modernize but it's not a threat just yet.

Does Australia have the resources to deploy F-18 all the way to Indonesia? You need AC for that which Australia lacks.

And that is what I am saying. Thanks to alliances Australia is as good as invincible. But credit goes to US, UK not to Australia alone.

Indonesia cannot threaten Australia. Fighting Australia means fighting New Zealand, UK, US and by default whole NATO. Nobody is going to take the risk. Australia is more a political power because of its alliances and resources, I guess you guys have some truckloads of uranium which gives you a very good leverage. Same like oil does for Saudis.
