The Legend of Maula Jatt - Trailer

I think people are being too hung up on the fact it does not match the original. The producers have repeatedly said the film is not a remake or a sequel. It is its own story using the characters from the original. The film is clearly going to the fantasy historical genre (example 300) so do not expect it to be an accurate representation of Punjab.

I think this is a great step up for Pakistani cinema as producers are starting to experiment with different genres, for the last few years comedy and action comedy has ruled the box office. It is exciting to see something different.

You can't blame us when the movie was called Maula Jatt 2 just a week ago.

Believe me, you'd hate it worse if the film tried to be too much like the original and fell short. Besides this has to be more of an adaptation and not a second version. Those classic oldies are difficult to remake for modern audiences. I'm glad they're not trying too hard to be the old version, it hardly ever works.

Will watch tonight , my plan was to see Aquaman in 3D but this one looks promising.
Don't waste your time.
Of if you want to have a good laugh then you are welcome.
Hollywood was producing better films in 40s then the quality of this film.
Even in the 80s when Pakistani Films are quite famous in Pakistan, they are so bad in quality though superior in acting and script .

What a mix of Gladiator + Viking + Gandasa and using name of legend “ Moula Jatt “
Nice try but kam na Ai.

Nope, all those movies copied Maula Jatt. Not the other way around. Give your culture a bit of credit lol.

It was the original Maula Jatt (1979) that popularized the Gandasa (longer version of the axe as a weapon).

If you want to be historically correct then all agriculture based (Vikings were at one point & Punjabis are today too) used axes. We can credit Hazrat Nuh too (A.S.) for he's the first one mentioned as the wielder of the axe. :D

Yea, I see it more as a remix too. Better than the original imo (I watched clips of the original lol; it was bad...other than the dialogues).

Acting was way better in the original too. They couldn't rely on special effects back then.

And yes gandasa was first used as a farming tool before people started killing each other with it.

My grandfather had quite a few as we grow sugar cane and that's what it was mainly used to cut. The gandasa isn't necessarily the longer version of the axe but it can be referred to it as the same. They would basically attach the gandasa to a daang or laati. An interesting thing to note in this new version is that the actors were trained in gatka which is indeed a Punjabi martial art. If you watch the opening scene with Fawad he is only using the stick to fight. My great grandfather was proficient in this style of fighting.

Still talking shit burger? Cool down baby.

You don't know anything about me. But I know your Punjabi is weak. Translate the opening poem in this new trailer and prove me wrong.

Wow that's great. I would definitely like to learn Gatka. Have heard of the term but never fully knew what it was/or meant. We really need to teach our kids our culture dude.

Thanks for giving me a topic to research & learn about. :enjoy:

Someone give him a negative rating. Tis time he went too far.

He's actually quite right. Did you ever watch the original movie & what kind of stereotypes it promoted?

Did you look at that time period too?

I can make a safe bet that some (if not a lot) of the crime was inspired after kids (and adults) watched these types of movies with vulgar language, no respect of religion, law or basic human social interaction. I can go on but... you know. :)

I'm upset they were wearing peshawari chappal instead of khussa in this trailer. In the original noori was wearing peshawari chappal but that was fashion in punjab at the time the film was set. I think the timeline in this new one is from a few hundred years ago, so they should have been wearing khussa, but I guess I am just being nit picky.

lol I didn't dissect the movie like it was a science experiment. But that's good, I didn't notice that. I'm sure the producer needs to hire you for trailers ;)

I just come from a punjabi zamindar family, so I picked up on what my elders would wear. Plus they were also involved in plenty of fights in pind. This only occasionally happens now in rural areas. One of my second cousins was released from jail a few years ago for stabbing 2 people in a pind fight. Fortunately I never got involved in that kind of jahil shit, but I've had a few fights growing up.

My view exactly. It also feels like they are slating the movie for international releases hence theyl want to integrate themes prevailant in hollywood movies as well to make the movie more familiar to said audience. Whether this is a smart move i dont know, this is only a first look trailer.

Lashari has also said in an interview that he took in the criticism from waar where many said the trailer was amazing but the script of the actual movie weak. This is why he delayed the release of maula jatt so they could continue working on the script. I wish them well, it won't be an original as you said but it is taking into account the modern urban audience (burger bache as @lastofthepatriots is referring to) who are the largest cinema ticket purchasing individuals as well as the international audience. Wouldn't be surprised if this film ends up on Netflix eventually.

They are the same kids that find the special effects and GoT theme of the film awesome, but wouldn't be caught dead speaking Punjabi as they look down on it as 'paindu' or 'jahil'. I think the narration of the poem in the trailer was awesome, but most of the new gen kids probably don't even understand what it means.

I mean how badass is it when they are talking about Noori Natt being so ferocious, that he kills any other Natt he comes across that he deems to be a coward. Or how his terror sends flowing rivers to turn backwards.

I feel like most people will only watch the movie for Fawad and Mahira, the music and cinematography looks good though but it can never beat the original.
